I noticed he was mentioned in the "Se7en or Silence of the Lambs" thread. I think he's a terrific actor with a great amount of talent. Most "actors" out there just get buy with how they look *cough ashton kutcher cough*, but he actually has talent. Much like Anthony Hopkins, who has also earned my respect.

He's a fine actor indeed.

'The Shawshank Redemption' is one of my favorite movies, I think

no doubt he's a great actor, but i'm getting a little tired of him playing the intellectual detective figure in gritty, semi- sci-fi / supernatural thriller type movies.

it would be nice to see him do something different for once, like a comedy.

Plus, he was on The Electric Company. Floop, you are right. I thought some of those movies he played the same character literally. I mean, with the same name. But what's the point of playing and replaying that character if you can't remember his name?

Shawshank is so good that I don't even mind watching it every single time I fond it playing on tv, The sense of satisfaction in the end is so great. He got that evil warden and lived happily ever after. Morgan Freeman should have won every award in the book for this one.

Are you talking about when the two shadow faces would look at eachother and they would each sound out syllables?

Yes, that was a good part.

Morgan Freeman also had a lovely and quite appropo afro for the times.

I learned to read on Electric Company.

I like Freeman ok - he certainly has a great presence, but I must admit that I too am bored of his arguably pigeon-holed roles. It's a shame to see such type-casting occur -I would love to see him in a Delicatessen-esque French film-noir, as a Kafka-type drone, an architect with a pentient for clemantines and a knack for lock-picking - ok, ok, maybe I just need to go watch Brazil and Kafka again.....

I love Morgan Freeman and his freckles.

And his voice over at the end of Shawshank ALWAYS makes me cry. "Get busy living, or get busy dying". *Sob*!

I kind of figured he was the one pigeonholing himself. It's not as if he can't play other parts, I just think maybe at this point in his life he's liking that he can relax and basically play teh same part over and over. You know, not really ahve to work so hard to stretch himself.

I have a friend that unabashedly despises Morgan Freeman and Shawshank. I actually like the movie, but I can definitely see how Freeman is no better than a mediocre actor. My favorite role of his was in Nurse Betty. That was as much a departure for him as you'll see.

Canadians would rather we not discuss the latent racism found in their 1980s juvenile programming. Don't be surprised if this post disappears in the next few hours.

*looks over shoulder*

Was Barth the chef/restauranteur guy?

Anyone here ever see That Was Then, This Is Now, which was a bad film adaptation of the S.E. Hinton novel of the same name? Morgan Freeman has a small role in that as a bartender brandishing a shotgun. The movie isn't all that great. Another film based on a book of Hinton's, The Outsiders, is what I consider to be what of the finest translations from book to film ever. I've heard Rumble Fish is quite good, too.

He was in "Bruce Almighty" which I think is a very good movie.
