Today's random song of the day is Constant Sorrow Man.
What do you think of it?

"lyrics - traditional"....What a cop out! Laziness abounds!
I think this song is great. Its magnificently written, has a very root-sy feel to it, and I like the lyrics a lot. Good stuff.

Damn you, oracle! Go copy the lyrics from the tabs or something, must ... have... lyrics.
Of course I could do the same myself or just try to remember them, but it's so much nicer to have them right here where I can read them. How will I ever know if he sings, "Hardwood and bamboo" or "Hard luck and bad news"?! I'm doomed!
OK, enough hard times for the Oracle, good tune, though not my favourite. Great as a b-side tho.

I love this song, especially the "my friends say that I'm strange..." part

great version of a classic tune. nice vocal performance.
'i'll breath the air that my lungs once held...' is a beautiful line.
close call between this and the dylan version as to which one is superior.

Didn't know this was a standard....that is interesting. I mean, I suspected as much since there was a very similar kind of song in that movie "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?"
So, Dylan actually covered this rootsy standard as well? interesting...

it's not a standard, not a cover, it's a fb original right?
It's a shame that it's not on a proper album

I don't think the mystery was ever solved about this song, whether or not it's traditional or what...cause there is a tradition version. I think the Grateful Dead used to play it, and FB's lyrics are somewhat similar to that version, but his version doesn't match any other version word for word.

This and Pan American Highway should definetly be on an album. I always thought it was an FB original... |

it's frank's version of a 'traditional' song.
i'm guessing he wouldn't claim it as an original.

traditional folk songs get re-written again and again over the years. That's partly why such songs get credited as 'traditional'. No one knows who initially wrote it, and it's been changed over the generations.
"Constant Sorrow Man" is Frank's rewrite of an old song. The credit for these types of things is often laid out with the songwriting noted as "traditional" and the performer credited for "arrangement".

As far as the song, I hadn't listened to it in awhile, the only version I have is a live one I got from TBG. I always enjoy SSMVG for a little something different, then I become completely absorbed in it, like all of the kingdom of Frank
Song Oracle, Pretty shitty without lyrics. Come on now, have the lyrics...
Also pretty shitty that I only have one decently crappy quality version of This song...
Also shitty I've never seen or heard it live...
Shitty I don't know the author of this song is, it sounds so familiar though, or at least kinda' like someone else's voice...
Yo! Song Oracle motherfucker, reveal yourself now! We know you are Not one of us, yet you are. Who is this Song Oracle??? Must we roam Through the entire catalog of frank black and pizes songs before the Oracle reveals their true identity?
What if it is the man himself? Wouldn't we feel stupid then?
