Okay we Frank Black fans are a hip bunch it's true. Although if I was as hip as I pretend to be, I'd have other methods for avoiding STD's besides involuntary abstinence. Any who, I was reading the Donnie Darko thread and it made me think of some of my favorite movies. Here's the greatest movie ever made. The Corndog man. Who's heard of it? I own three copies and have watched it at least 68 times. You know? This could have some connection with the involuntary abstinence issue I'm dealing with.
Honorable mentions: Romper Stomper The Tin drum Secretary Love and a 45 True Romance Donnie Darko Run Lola Run And many, many other's As they come to me, I'll let you know. Any suggestions? Uh, for the movie's that is. I can handle the abstinence thing myself.

The Shawshank Redemption
Filmed in my town, haha, there are several of my old teachers in the movie as extras. Great movie, though.

Blues Brothers, all the way.
I was having an argument with one of my real world acquaintances the other day about how my favourite movie is not neccessarily, imo, the best movie ever made. I think the Godfather is the best movie ever, but Blues Brothers is my favourite. Seems simple enough, though she didn't get it.

Forgot about Fight Club. IDIOT! Boogie night's too! Owning Mahoney, was pretty intense. With the chubby gay guy from Boogie night's Love Liza Happiness - wow! Hey Gypsy what's "This is not a Love Song?" Other than a PIL tune.

Thanks! I'll see if I can find it. Side note: I am at this very moment eating spam for the first time. I've come to the realization that, certain foods are only meant to be consumed while trying to survive the apocalypse.

8.5
I have many other favorites, but this is the flawless film. Not one flaw. I never thought that could exist...a flawless film. I've been waiting now 13 years (since I first saw 8.5) for another to come along, but alas...
So check it out. OTTO E MEZZO (8.5) by Federico Fellini 1963 starring Marcello Mastroianni
Unparalleled.

...and yes INTERLOPER, I too am a big fan of THX1138 and am tired of waiting for it to be released on DVD. Have you seen the original student short film? It too is quite amazing. What happened to the promising young George Lucas? He could've been a marvelous conceptual director.

Yeah, I have yet to see that (THX-1138). Did see American Graffiti and was quite impressed by that as well. However, I now refuse to rent or buy VHS.

Yeah!! Great movie, I'd certainly put it in my Top 10.
The rest of my best, in no particular order: The Indian Runner, The Crossing Guard, The Pledge (yeah I'm a Sean Penn fan), Stand By Me, Short Cuts, Dead Man, Dead Man Walking, Mystic River...

No, I've never seen the original version, but I'd love too. What an overlooked film. Real Kubrickesque I always thought.
I agree about the DVD...needs to happen.

Okay...time to list ten favorites (besides the aforementioned 8.5):
North by Northwest Parallax View La Dolce Vita Citizen Kane A Place in the Sun Star Trek: The Motion Picture (I know, I know...but if you give it a chance, you'll find this to be an excellent piece on trancendentalism) Gattaca Giant On the Waterfront Blue Velvet

Heres the rest of mine. As well as Godfather and Blues Brothers I would have to say Big Lebowski, O Brother Where Art Thou (or anything Coen), Romeo & Juliet, Taxi Driver, and probably some more.

haven't seen anyone mention CHOPPER in any of these film threads....
but i personally think this movie is outstanding. reviews tend to compare it to reservior dogs, which i suppose is fairish - but thats probably mainly for the scene where he cuts his ear off.
but it is a superb example of slightly skewed australian cinema.
...and it's only £3.99 at hmv at present.... |

I really don't get how someone would love Run Lola Run. What a piece of trash. Well, I guess I didn't get it. Also Shawshank: what's so great about this movie? It's just a so-so prison movie. My favorite movie of all time: DePalma's Phantom Of The Paradise. And next: - well, every other movie by DePalma (esp. Carrie, The Fury, Obsesion, Femme Fatale) - The Rocky Horror Picture Show - Akira - The Princess Bride - Night Of The Hunter - Les Malheurs d'Alfred (french movie, you haven't seen it) - Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid

Oh my god, Vilainde, you chose "The princess bride". I saw it with my English class when I was 14 or something...can't believe you chose that one !

Unfortunately not the proper one, the Leo (sucker that I am). I like it whatever anyone says, I think its pretty evocative, and the soundtrack is ace. Also, Claire Danes, nuff said. (Shallow man that I am).
Adnan, I think I mentioned the Godfather twice, thrice now.
