In my opinion, "Speedy Marie" is one of the finest Frank's songs. It is also the one that is the most directly related to Jean.

Do you think he is going to play us that song again, and will it have a different flavour now ?

Do you think the song can survive without Jean ? Is it a universal love song ?

My answer would be "yes" to all these questions. Personnally, I had a girlfriend called Marie (who was rather speedy and I used to lay my clumsy thoughts on her neck) and after we broke up, I used to listen to that song thousands of times, completely identifying myself.

Give me your opinion.

Well, it seems like he still has a pretty good relationship with Jean, so maybe he will bust out the song again. Also, I think there are probably plenty of other songs "directly related" to Jean and perhaps many he plays often.

I too hope to hear him play this song, it's one of my favorites. I don't know if it could ever be separated from the subject in my own mind, considering the acrostic...

He'd have to play it with EDF if he did. The synthesizer part in this sang is one of the best ever. I'm sure rich could pull it off but it wouldn't be the same.

I sure like the synth in this song pretty much, but I'm sure they can manage to play the song without EDF.

Ramona, having a "pretty good relationship" is even worse for the feeling in the song, I think. There are only two sorts of mood that can make this song really shine on us : love and regret.

It's a Shakespearian Sonnet and an acrostic too
It spells Jean Marie Welsh
My love song spells

Well, I guess by 'pretty good relationship' I meant that perhaps there is still love there and since they are now divorced he probably DOES have regrets.

Even if you break up you can still enjoy that moment in time which made you write a song for someone you loved and Frank is a grown up, if he wants to sing the song he can probably handle it. That is all I meant.

just the fact that frank manages to use the word 'juxtaposed' makes me like the song. even if he hadn't, it'd still be a great song.

I guess I agree with you, except for the caterpillars and butterflies.

I fully agree with you, Adnan. Speedy Marie is a great, great song in every respect. Possibly my favorite FB song in fact.
