i just bought this album and its just awesome. this has some really rockin' stuff on it. i noticed people saying that it takes a few listens to like his albums but i cant see it. i have a few already and only dw and smyt had to sink in. i loved this album from the very first guitar change in los angeles. i really like his stuff with ufo's pixie or solo stuff. i think its great that someone writes songs about this stuff. i know im not the only person that believes in ufos but its kinda neat to hear some all around great written songs about such things. after hearing this album i dont know want i want to hear from frank either his more acoustic stuff that he has been doing or more of this. i have a feeling this cd could become my favorite of his. sorry bld this album may lack the emotion but it kicks major ass. and incase any one cares parry the wind high, low is my favorite and los angeles and ten percenter are right up there. im sure its been said before but frank is the man and a genius. |

I bought that album and actually tried to return it shortly afterwards. I was a big pixies fan too. That is the record in which I learned you can't return albums just because you dont like them. Then it kind of sat around until "Teenager of the Year" came out. I was in the record store talking with this guy and he told me how great Teenager was, so I bought it. Fucking Awesome!! I listened to it around the clock for weeks( like every one of his new albums since) Then I put a little more effort into the self titled and, I had seen the light! Parry the wind (my favorite too), czar. I love them all. If you don't have TOTY go get it right now!!
Note to self - Making love to blow up doll, not as good as advertised. |

yeah, i have the same emotions on FB self titled. "objectively", TOTY is his best work IMHO, but every time i listen to the orange (LP) / yellow (CD) album, i can't help but thinking, okay, this is the peak. fu manchu, don't ya rile 'em, los angeles, tossed, ten percenter, these are my favourites...

i also ignored frank black's career for the first four years. i heard the self-titled when it first came out and i thought it blew. then a few years ago i was working in a coffee shop and for some weird reason i started humming "i heard ramona sing". so i went out and bought the album. since then i have gone back and collected every single album and fallen in love with every one. |
