You know, I've noticed a lot of people on this forum are really young. Jim is 21, Dean is 23 or something like that, Tim is 28, NimrodsSon is about 15, TheCroutonFuton is 15, Cheeseman is 21 (unless it was the 10th of December 1928 or earlier)........In fact, the oldest person I know of on the forum is Frank himself, at 38. There are probably people on this forum that are older, though. Oh, and happy birthday, Jim.

well of course you drink before it's legal.. but getting drunk on your 21st, at bars.. that's a sacred tradition.

you shouldn't be allowed to leave until you projectile vomit.

Hope you had a good one, Jim.

I didn't really drink until I was about 23 or 24 (thanks, grad school). I remember 21 being anticlimactic b/c everybody gave me booze for my birthday, so there really wasn't even any point in going to the liquor store to make the symbolic purchase.

And here's my symbolic purchase story: I went to the liquor store, with my REAL ID, on my 21st birthday, and got a sixpack of cheap stuff, and some 21-year-old scotch. Didn't get carded! I was pissed! I was finally legal and using my real Illinois driver's license, and they didn't card me. "HEy, I've been buying stuff here for years, getting carded, and now I'm finally 21 and you don't even ask to even glance at my wallet!" I told the clerk in the college town where I bought lots of underage crap. "What would be the point?" he asked.

That was back in '81, when things were a bit more lax, I guess.

Thanks guys! I've been drinking a bit since my birthday. Why? I dunno, maybe to prepare myself for the bars. I don't drink much at all...maybe that'll change. Hopefully not too much, cause too much of something is never a good thing. To put things into perspective as to how much I don't drink, I got tipsy over 2 beers at dinner.

What do you define as "young?" You mentioned someone who is 15 and someone who is 28 in the same breath. Personally, the older I get the greater the age bracket rises for my own definition of "young." Used to be, 30 was totally grown-up. Now most 30 year olds don't seem any more mature than I do. It's very disconcerting.

I think I recall reading somewhere that Hordak was pretty old.

El Barto, in 6 months you'll be a boozehound. The longer you wait to start drinking the more you end up doing it. That was the case with me and some friends at least. Takes awhile to build a tolerance though.

Thanks for the hope Itchload. I guess a broken heart doesn't help either!

Is this scientifically proven, though? Or is it a theory?

It's a theory I have. I hated the idea of drinking in highschool and freshman year of college. Then I started drinking a bit, telling myself "I only do this once in awhile, I'm not one of those guys"...combine that with some good ole life turmoil and eventually you end up drinking a handle of whiskey a week, whoops! My other friend from highschool was the same way, full blown alcholic now, and not in your cheery college party way either. Being incredible cynical and discovering alcholol doesn't generally paint a pretty picture--but it can be a temporarily relaxing one.
