Everyone has his own taste but I really think that it is all throughout a solid album and not patchy at all. To me it is their best album, I think. But even if not there is no way that I think you can make a solid case for Trompe Le Monde being an inconsistant album or not up to the Pixies standard as heard on previous releases.

I just think that it only has a few good songs, it isn't heavy enough, its not particularly catchy, and it tails off towards the end.
However, that is only my humble opinion and i guess we will just have to agree to disagree on this one.
