Today's random song of the day is I Need Peace.

What do you think of it?

lyrics
Close your eyes
Or you''ll have a lot of tears to cry
So hey now if you''re wise
You won''t open up your eyes

Close your ears
''Cause you don''t really want to hear
The things that give you tears
So don''t open up your ears

And if you sleep
Well, you better not go too deep
''Cause bad things they will seep
Right down into your sleep

And if you wake
Well, you''re gonna have a nervous break
So sleep now for goodness'' sake
Sleep for goodness'' sake

I need peace
I get so down
I''ve got these
Turned up so loud
Turned up so loud

I actually always thought this song was just OK until I heard the cover that uhh.... someone (sorry)... did for You Ain't Me. Then I thought to myself, I really haven't heard this song, and now I love it.

This song is awesome live, although Rich's solo during the bridge wasn't as amazing as Lyle's on the album.

More thoughts about I Need Peace: something has always bothered me in this song, it has some of the worst lyrics Frank has ever written. I like the idea behind them, but the way it rhymes really bugs me. It doesn't really matter though, cause everything else is awesome. This incredible guitar 6/8 solo is one of the first things that made me love the album. I have a friend who's a big FB fan too, and he would call me a hundred times just to record this gemm as a message on my phone.

I love the chorus. In particular, "I've got peace / Turned up so loud / Turned up SOOOOO LOUD."

Just desperately trying to escape all the bad things (which will seep right into your sleep).

If it were performed more singsongy, Denis, I think I'd agree with you, but the way it's sung the rhyming doesn't really bother me.

I must confess I didn't really enjoy that song until I heard it live, one month ago.

I like this song. And I like it a lot live as well. It was played at both the England shows that I saw. I also like how he sings quietly (or not into the mike? I don't know. Not a musician, sorry!) over the last part at the end. He also does that on His Kingly Cave.

I've enjoyed this song since the first time I heard it on the album. Lyle's part in it is great (as usual).

I agree with the general sentiment here, its one of my most favouritest live tracks of FB's, up there with Headache. Its cool, cos its just a straightforward rock'n'roll song, and thats always gonna be good.

i like the last verse. i'm assuming he's refering to headphones when he says "i got these turned up so loud".. which is cool, because he has similar lyrics in other songs; i like the whole music-saving-your-alienated-soul / music-as-escape theme..

like, in I Heard Ramona Sing: "i had so many problems, and then i got me a walkman"..

or Jesus Was Right: "i want to be alone, i want to be inside my headphones"

there are lots of other odes to rock and roll Frank's stuff of course, but these are very similar.

Not a big fan of this song. It's just too simple and basic rock and rock for me. Kind of a cool riff, but it's not one of those songs that blow me away like Los Angeles or Robert Onion or All Over the World or The Cult of Ray or even This old Heatache, just to name a few...
Actually, thinking harder about it, it is a pretty great song. But I defenitely have to be in the mood for it.

I think he says "I got peace turned up so loud". Either way, yeah, I agree on it being music as his escape from all the bad things in life. I entirely hear that. Nothing like a good tune to chase away the bad things.

I always thought it would be cooler if he said "I got these turned up so loud" rather than peace.
