There's not a whole lot new in this news item, but it's the first I've heard of a new best of album.
NEW YORK (Billboard) - While reports that the Pixies will reunite for concerts in 2004 remain unconfirmed, Billboard.com has learned there are two archival projects in the works.
The group's manager, Ken Goes, says 4AD is prepping "a very nice DVD," as well as a newly compiled "best of" album to replace the 1997 release "Death to the Pixies," which is now out of print in the U.S. No release dates have been announced.
The DVD will feature eight Pixies videos, for such tracks as "Debaser," "Here Comes Your Man" and "Monkey Gone to Heaven." Also included is the documentary "Gouge," which was shown on British television a few years ago and sports interviews with Radiohead's Thom Yorke, David Bowie (news) and U2 frontman Bono.
Rounding out the package is a 1988 concert taped at London's Town and Country on the Pixies' maiden tour of the region. "Finally, it'll include some off-stage stuff, sort of behind-the-scenes, on tour and in the studio; about 30 minutes or so," Goes reports. "It'll be a great package for fans and a nice introduction for others."
Goes had no comment on renewed speculation that the Pixies may regroup for the first time since their 1992 dissolution. In September, he told Billboard.com he had "received an offer for the Pixies to perform in April. That said, over the past 10 years, I have received dozens of offers for the Pixies."
In related news, former Pixies frontman Frank Black (news) has made a new EP available exclusively to Apple's iTunes Music Store. Four previously unreleased tracks, "Don't Clip Your Wings," "A Dab'll Do Ya," "Preacher's Daughter" and "Show Me Your Tears" can be purchased for 99 cents each. The cuts are outtakes from Black's latest spinART album, "Show Me Your Tears."

Will there just be the 88 gig in London or also another one in the DVD ? And please, this time, don't forget to put "Hey" in the band new best of. I know in the live version of DTTP but it desearves to be also include in the best of. Well, that's what i think. |

There's just the one Town and Country Club gig on the DVD - there's not a lot more room (or budget!) for more this time...
and yes, 'Hey' will be on the Best Of :) |

well Jo, congrat everybody at 4ad for putting 'hey' on it. DTTP was a weak best of, mainly for the lack of that song

Its just nice to see the Pixies or FB inthe 'mainstream' press. When I first saw the headline on AP wire I thought it was confirmation of a tour.
Cant wait to get the DVD.... |

there's no official tracklist yet, but its at the stage v23 are doing the artwork... mind, I don't even think there's a proper title for the Best Of yet... I'm hoping once we're back in the new year there'll be more official news... and a release date (I'd think as a completely off the top of my head guess we're looking around April time? maybe earlier, maybe later...)
and there was talk a while back, can't remember if it was here or the 4ad boards, but that a second DVD *could* happen with the Brixton show.. I could be wrong with that one, but if it did, it'd be a long way off cause there's so much other stuff from all our other labels and bands due to get a turn... :) |

Dont wanna sound negative but the DVD sounds balls.
An 88 gig!? Oh wow we get to hear Come on Pilgrim and Surfer stuff. Maybe 1/2 Doolittle. What about people who actually really like the last two albums? Gouge Documentary! Correct me on this but aren't the live tracks in that from the town and country club? 30 minutes of extras!? Whoop! Anyone seen the pavement DVD? Thats how you fuckin do it.
But I'll still be in my local music emporium the day its released (to buy it). |

well y'know, nobody is forcing you to buy it!
I think its worth it just for the 30 minute documentary alone - as far as the last two albums go, I've not seen the Brixton show, so I'm assuming that's from then, but it's just not possible to use that for this. We're trying to keep costs down here!
And yes, the Gouge documentary had excerpts from the T&CC gig, however, they were only excerpts. Without revealing exactly what is on the 30 minute doc, you get stuff you've NEVER seen before- and it's amazing stuff.
I do have the Pavement DVD, although I've not sat down and watched it all - I skipped through a lot of the videos, cause I was curious to see what was on it... I should watch it again - there just seemed so much it was too much for one sitting. |

The town and country gig is phenomenal and i would actually much rather have that on dvd than the brixton show because from watching them both, the earlier show is much better.... kim's looking stoned to all hell and they're just rocking it out.
sure, the brixton one is longer and has some absolute killer tracks, but the earlier one just has more passion and is thoroughly more interesting to watch.
i got these two shows years ago on a VHS - i thought i was only getting the brixton show, but the nice man added the T&C show on the end...quite a suprise.
ps. here's the tracklist for the T&C show: 1. The Holiday Song 2. Nimrod's Son 3. Bone Machine 4. Levitate Me 5. Ed Is Dead 6. Where Is My Mind? 7. Caribou 8. Something Against You 9. Hey 10. Gigantic 11. I've Been Tired 12. Vamos 13. In Heaven 14. Tony's Theme 15. Wild Honey Pie

it'll be standard colour - the sepia tint was just for the documentary (is what I was just told!) |
