no this should not be in the Here Comes Your Man section
I've seen many many times on this forum that people complain about the whole two track thing and give examples of mistakes on the records.
Well back in the days of the pixies when they recorded in studios and even worked with computers a lot (in the bossanova-trompe period says FB in an old interview) there were some mistakes too
For instance at the end of I She Weird you can hear a falling glass or something that sounds like it. Frankly, I like that, I love mistakes, I would even like a catholics blooper cd (contrary to my point below, since they record live there must be more recordings of bloopers).
My point:mistakes are always made and it has nothing to do with the two track thing per se

my late addition to the whole "live to two-track" argument is this:
i think it would be really, really interesting if - like vintage jazz recordings - the take number of each track was listed in the album liner notes. that way you could appreciate a song that was an amazing second or third take - or be humbled by a band of veterans who took fifteen takes to get it just right.
what do you all think?

Listen to Alec Eiffel. When Kim comes in with the bass, she comes in on the wrong note.

Awe shyte, I dont have TLM here at work, but I will check "Alec Eiffel" tomorrow.
But since we are on mistakes....it is an engineering mistake but refers to multi-track recording. On "Gouge Away" at the :10-:11 mark, you can hear the gates on the ride cut in and out. Makes them super choppy.
Always sounds funny to me...like how did Gil Norton let that go? But time/budget/money probably dictated that decision.

this was probably brought up before, but on one of the songs on SMYT i think dave starts singing the wrong words when he doubles franks part in the chorus. I cant think of which song it is

I have mistakes on the songs I record. It's usually very subtle, but I figure, eh, it's good enough.
I'm sure Frank has the same attitude. I remember an old interview with Lyle Workman, and Lyle said often he'd want to redo a take/solo, but Frank would say it was fine and to leave it alone.

well yah, usually the thought of having to do a whole take over would mean a less enthusiastic performance, especially the way they do it

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Listen to Alec Eiffel. When Kim comes in with the bass, she comes in on the wrong note.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Does she? I thought she was just sliding down the string deliberately in the approved rawk n roll fashion. |

I also enjoy that weird sound at the end of Is She Weird. I believe it sounds like a guitar string snapping and emmiting said chime.

That's quite possible...
