although i love all of the pixies albums, i've always had the deepest love for bossanova. i know a lot of pixies fans have the old punk rock ethic going, and remain loyal to the earlier pixies work. but bossanova is like the bible of rock music for me. i love the imagery involving the desert, the ocean and the physical and emotional phenomenon of women. i even heard through a personal friend of black frances' brother, that bossanova is also frances' favorite pixies album.

Bossanova places second only to Doolittle to me.

Ana and Dig For Fire are two awesomest songs but they can't quite compete with this lineup:

Debaser
Wave Of Mutilation
Here Comes Your Man
Hey
Gouge Away

ooh la la!

Velouria is the song that got me into the pixies, so ive also had a strong admiration for bossanova too. I think I listen to surfer rosa more, but is she weird and blown away are awesome. Peace.

Technically the first Pixies I heard was Doolittle, but the first Pixies album to really grab me a shake me by my skinny teenage ankles upside down out a window was Bossanova. I just remember hearing the first chords of Velouria and knowing I was listening to something awesome. And I was right. I'm always right.

I reckon, in terms of songwriting craft, Ana is one of CT's all-time highlights. If you've ever tried to play it, you'll realise how perfect it is, how every note of the melody is exactly right with the chord. Similar can be applied to Havalina and The Happening.

Can't really go past Doolittle, but Bossanova is a brilliant record, but it depends on the mood ur in.

I had a tape with Bossanova on side A and TLM on side B, and I would listen to this everyday, 2 or 3 times a day, during 2 whole years (1997-1998). I love these records. I prefer TLM though, cause I don't like Hang Wire and Blown Away as much as the others. But Bossa Nova is still one of the best records ever.

The first pixies song i heard was Rock Music. I've come to like all pixies albums equally, but even though Doolittle is probably their best, Surfer Rosa, especially with Come on Pilgrim, is/are my favourite.

bossanova is brilliant, but can't compete with trompe le monde. imho, the sad punk, the title song, alec eiffel, d=rxt, .... are just the best songs ever written. i think, trompe le monde acts as the universal pixies book - understanding it equals understanding all of the pixies. the sad punk is just the 120% perfect pixies song.
of course, the same accounts somehow for all over the world, hang wire, rock music, velouria, but trompe is more grown up, or has somehow achieved the final pixies-stage. at least in my opinion..

i suppose people dont like bossanova as much because its where charles was trying to get his new ideas across, moving away from what was expected of the pixies. incest and all. some people dont like pistolero and the catholics self titled, possibly for the same reason.

bossanova is my favourite. blown away and velouria are two of the best songs ever, and dig for fire and havalina make me happy/sad, and hang wire and rock music bring out the little teeny-bopping mosher in me. at least, being a teenager, i can get away with it.

"I joined the Cult of Trippy/...what was i singing again???"
edit:i called rock music 'rock wire' for some reason. maybe i don't love bossanove enough...;)
