Moving on from my (minor) rant about modern art and the Turner Prize (COF's Corruption of Art thread) I thought I would tell you what I do like:
Paul Klee
Picasso
Van Gogh
Miro
Kandinsky
Oh, to be a millionaire with a house with some very large walls.
You like my choices or not?
Pop art, dadaism, renaissance, matt groening - what makes you guys go wow??

I like the Paul Klee and the Picasso a lot. I'd prefer a double sided Kandinsky, a la Six Degrees of Separation, which is an excellent movie, by the way. |

Very nice choices...my favorite out of those would be the Kandinsky. I really like how the colors and shapes work with eachother. I don't like the color selection for the Klee or Van Gogh, but I generally really like Van Gogh's stuff. I'm only an art neophyte.

I really like the first Klimt one.
As for faeries, has anyone seen Lady Cottington's squished fairy book. I love those pics!

Yeah, I've got a poster of the Klimt one on my living room wall. Wish it were the original, hehe.

Carolyn, those squashed fairies are so Brian Froud like, I wonder if one of them was influenced by the other.

I'm not sure, do you have more examples of Froud?
I just liked the idea that she caught them and then pressed them in a book, and some of their expressions are quite humorous.

lol i love the way it looks like theyre trying to get through the pages and push them away etc. I usually don't like that stuff but faeries in truth are damn hard to draw and make them nto look like the cliched little winged nymphos. it's hard to give em each individual character but that book rocked

Ah, Giger. Now that guy is way out there. Remember the infamous painting that got the Dead Kennedy's in all that trouble with the censorship police? Was that Tipper Gore and her cronies?
Not my cup of tea. Too disturbing but great in a landmark sci-fi movie.

Yeah. the yellow/green is stunning against the blue. Everyone recognises van Gogh for his sunflowers paintings but I think that he created many wonderful landscapes and still lifes that are far superior.

Hey Starla! If you want to put in an image, the snitz forum uses a sort of html tag, just use [ and ] brackets, like imageurl (no spaces) and that should do it. I like the William Blake too. Funny, when I was in high school, a one-time-hippy-parent of a friend of mine got me a copy of Kahlil Gibran's "The Prophet", and I got into Blake soon after, since his drawings were very similar. |

Obfuscate - love your picks!!
I don't know where to begin with mine - I think I've got too many that I like. It's like going for 10 years without books and then walking into a giant bookstore with 15 dollars in your hand. Aaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! |

Barney,
um Da Vinci! I have no clue whatsoever, just wanted to get the ball rolling.
Also what is the name of that Van Gogh one with the cafe, do you know? Seems like everyone know Starry Night too, or of course the scream. |

Interesting choices Obfuscate
Adam Tullie - I'm not familiar with his work. Will have a read up.
Jean-Michel Basquiat - Died very young didn't he? Was it drugs? Quite a disturbing piece.
Max Ernst - too surreal for me although I do like his weird Elephant painting (can't remember the name).
Kurt Schwitters - like this one.
Raoul Hausmann - not too keen.
I think someone needs to dig out some Dali. I recall looking very closely at one of his paintings at a museum in Chicago. It was the one where he had painted a white horse/dog? that had gradually faded away. Now that's surreal!!

Bugger, it's midnight and my bed is calling to me. One more clue on my guess the picture post (maybe we should start another thread with this as a theme?)
Clue - it was painted by a teenager.

This is all good stuff, I like the Van Gogh and Klee best, I think. I can sit and stare at Van Gogh for ages in a gallery, fantastic. I also like Klee's stick men paintings and Lowry's similar stuff. My vote goes for Bill Watterson, though.
