Billy Radcliffe has got to be one of the illest songs that Charles has ever written. Every time I hear it, I like it just a little more. Not one second is short on supplying awesome hooks and kickass rock n roll.

Ironically, Skeleton Man and I Love Your Brain are two of my favourite tracks on Pistolero, behind perhaps only So. Bay Western Star.
Skeleton Man sounds exactly like it should for a song of this title and I love the guitar work, and the lead in I Love Your Brain is inspired to say the least.

Yeah, I was really disappointed with Pistolero initially. I missed the smoother melodic feel of the Orange (Yellow?) album and TOTY. I also really missed some of the more obscure sounds and instruments that he would often throw in on earlier albums.
Now, however, being older and totally more mature, I think Pistolero is great. Western Star and Billy Radcliffe are brilliant, of course. And I've really gotten into every other song on the album. I Think I'm Starting to Lose It and Smoke Up are probably my favorites. Skeleton Man and ILYB also get big thumbs up in my book. When he sings "Hold my Hand", it reminds me of Surfer Rosa and "Break my body, Hold my Bones".
All in all, Pistolero feels a little more unpolished and raw than anything else Frank's done, IMO. It's a bit more out of control, which is perfect for a hardcore rockin' album.

I got Pistolero and Dogs in the sand at the same time, not a very smart thing to do. It was to much. Favorites on Pistolero- You´re such a wire and 85 weeks.

Yeah, I always liked Skeleton Man too. The chorus melody/harmony slays me every time. Billy Radcliffe rocks equally.
I'm drunk right now, FYI.

I think I'm starting to loose it...because
Billy Radcliffe is one of my least favorite songs on the album (musically, not lyrically).
But the album is one of my favotites of frank black...it rocks (it is arguably Mr. black's last album with mostly "Rock" songs)
The standouts for me are:
So. Bay (obviously) Western Star (obviously) Smoke Up I think I'm starting to loose it I want Rock & Roll Skeleton Man |

By the way,
Anyone know what the lyrics of Billy Radcliffe are in reference to?
Lyrically, this song has always interested me. Even though it seems to be a sad song. |

Good question. I really enjoy trying to figure out some of Frank's more obscure references. I always assumed that Billy was based on some sci-fi story that he'd read.

If someone said right now "What FB cd do you wanna hear?"
Pistolero would be the answer.
I want Rock and Roll indeed. |

skeleton man is fantastic! slightly bittersweet album, as is the self-titled, as I was listening to them none-stop pretty much as I was going out with my first serious girlfriend, she went to uni a 2 hour train journey away, so i listened to those albums loads on my minidisc on the journeys to and from her place... kind of reminds me of those journeys, and seeing her, which isn't a bad thing i guess...
ahhh, and now you all know that little bit more about me that you really didn't need to know. i feel much better!
