Hehe, apl4eris, I meant "...lied to you man" as a phrase....I would say it to both boys and girls.
LadyZotal, ouch, I dont think anyone was being racist (what I think you mean by associating someone with a Nazi). Just because people are not native speakers of a language does not mean they should not be curious....in fact they should MORE curious. That is how we (as people) learn. Ignorance is NOT bliss.
Yeah, FB's spanish is Puerto Rican style....and lots of slang too. He did mean "Isla del Encanto" because he was singing about PR. He (or someone else) just mispelled it.
I find it hard to believe that you and your friends (native spanish speakers) cannot understand what he is saying in spanish. I believe you are being aloof. If you are not then I truly apologize. I really do. But when you follow that thought with:
"Or perhaps someone from the States, because I think that kind of slang (a strange mix of Spanish words and English grammars) that Frank uses could be the slang of native Noth Americans born to South American inmigrants."
It sounds like you are looking down on spanish speaking people on these continents. Correct or not this is something that many Latinos in North and Central America feel the Spanish do. Something you sort of affirmed with this: "[The Spanish] are the ones who discovered YOU and gifted you with european CULTURE."
I dont have enough pages to point out how many ways that statement is WRONG. The Spanish discovered a LAND (Caribean Island and Mexico not the States) and an Indigeonous population. I doubt the person you are writing to is a Native American. So it probably doesnt apply to him. And I am not sure you want to use the word "gifted" when talking about the culture the Spanish brought over. Let us just leave it at that.
Again, if you were being sincere then I apologize. I just read a different tone in your words.
Sorry to rant. I feel that asking legit. questions should not be meet with ill will.
Kind regards, spoon

So I´m white. We´re all white. Not green. Not brown. Not black. Not blue. Not beige. Not violet. WE ARE WHITE. Except for those Spanish citizens born to foreing parents from Africa, China, or similar situations. And except for those Spanish citizens who (sorrily) decide to go sightseing to USA: suddenly they become coloured.
Do you think that you, nazi wasp Americans are the ONLY white peolple in the world?. Remember we, not Anglos, not Saxons, not Protestants are the ones who discovered YOU and gifted you with european CULTURE. DOWN THE KLAN!!
well, considering i didnt know what country each member of the pixies is from off the top of my head, i decided to use a common stereotype; i know people from SPAIN are "white" too, so don't assume everyone is a mini-Hitler when they say that someone is white..

I'm Spanish too but I don't want to argue about racism.
I discovered Pixies music only a month ago in a 2:00 AM TV report (I'm a little embarrassed talking to you "old-time" Pixies Fans).
I'd been finding the written lyrics through the Internet (Because when I'm listening to their first recordings I guessed in two songs ("Isla de Encanta" & "Vamos") BF was trying to sing in spanish (In fact "Oh my Golly!" was in spanish too, but I can't understand anything in it!!!. It sounds me like english!!!)) and here you are my conclusion: I have no idea what is he talking about in "Oh my Golly!", it's not standard or latin-american spanish. I can guess the meaning of the song, but there are several interpretations of each phrase.
Sorry. Maybe a Puerto Rico native can find the answer.
P.S.: Rosa is a female's name, a flower and a color. What does "surfer" means? A surfer man or woman or the board for surfing? |

Welcome aboard, SODA! Don't feel bad for just finding out about the Pixies - I don't know of anyone on this board that is Pixies elitist. As far as I'm concerned, as long as people eventually know of and like the Pixies at all, that is a slightly happier planet, whenever it does happen.
P.S. Regarding your "surfer" question, I've always assumed that surfer in this case means a man or woman who surfs.
Join the Cult of Carl / Lisening him do bass for our power ballad 'Hypocrite of the Heart' is like lisening to angels play bass. |
