Okay, so you can only listen to Ween's The Pod or The Replacements Let It Be for the rest of your life. Sorry, but I wanted to think of a good showdown of albums. Since Ween has been one of my favorite bands for years and I've just discovered the genius of The Replacements in the last year, I'll definitely have to say that I'd want to continue listening to Let It Be the rest of my life since I don't know it nearly as well as The Pod but know that it's one helluva kickass record. Perhaps a big advantage the Pod has over Let It Be is that it's over twice the length of LIB, but some people might not be into the lo-fi fucked up-edness of early Ween.

Who else thought this would be Breeders vs. Beatles?

Well hell, maybe we should change it to the Breeders. I love Pod.

I like Pod as well, the Breeders' finest album, I think. I must say I like Kim's solo career, though not as much as FB. I still can't understand how it happened that these exceptional people (Charles, Kim, Joey and David) met together : I don't think it is a coincidence...

But I guess nobody can compete with the Beatles, Brian Wilson tried, and you see what happened...

Brian Wilson tried and almost vanished
but I'd say he had succes competing with the beatles
I mean when I hear (the soon to be finished) Smile sessions
I hear something that is as brilliant as Sgt. Pepper

If it wasn't for pet sounds, there would be no Sgt. Peppers.

Though, considering the whole of their outputs, Beatles win hands down.

I never heard "Smile" but I'm looking forward to hear it...
Personnally I listen to the Beach Boys more often than the Beatles, and I like even their pure pop period (and not only Pet Sounds), but I must admit that the Beatles are simply the greatest pop band ever...

Brian at his peak was 1000x more visionary than anyone in the Beatles. I don't have anything against the Beatles but my interest in them tends to skew to either side of Sgt Pepper's. Anyhow, I thought this thread would be Ween vs. Beatles.

The Swimmer said it just fine
Paul mcCartney said Sgt. Pepper was just a reaction to Pet Sounds

Maybe I should have said Ween's Pure Guava vs. The Replacements Tim, which were the records that came after the ones I mentioned. That would have cut down on the confusion.

I don't know either album very well. I haven't really heard much Ween at all but I'll tell you what Hootenanny by The Replacements is the ultimate drinking album, in my opinion.

replacements in a nutshell

sorry ma - power trash, fast & ugly & beautiful

stink - husker inspired metal guitar sounding anthem "punk" - got some great tunes anyway

hootenany - mixed bag, 3 great songs amongst crap; color me impressed the 'mats finest moment? maybe

let it be - stone cold classic

tim - major label debut, another classic

pleased to meet me - PWesterberg get's semi-serious, fire's the lush Bob Stinson and has a minor hit with "Alex Chilton" the song, not the big star

the final 2 albums - mixed bag of middle of the road rock, some good pop, no good rock

Well thanks, rockathon. That was sweet of you. I especially appreciate the warnings, as I had refrained from buying anymore due to apprehension about their going kinda lame-o mainstream pop.

Well, there are two sides to ween and I think it's all Pre or Post Pure Guava.

Are you a fan of well produced and full stuff or fucked up 4 track stuff...each have their time and place....

The Mollusk and Chocolate and Cheese and 12 Golden Country Greats for the produced stuff and Pure Guava and The Pod for the 4 track stuff.
