I think I'll go for the most radical change from Cheeseman's track. Just for the sake of diversity.
"Geppetto" by Optiganally Yours. Not my favourite track from their really wonderful second album, but then my faves aren't available for download. So there you go.
Should you have problems downloading from the link above, the track comes from here: http://www.epitonic.com/artists/optiganallyyours.html

mmmmmmmmm....listening as I type.....thank you! Very enjoyable....I have a long road trip ahead, going to visit crazy dysfunctional families for a week, and we have to pack a cat that hates being in a car and howls every 5 minutes into the car, stupid "pilgrims", and hateful lying teachers, there ain't no damn such thing as Plymouth Rock it's a damn tourist trick......But at least now I can "cha-cha all day" :)
uhhh - I don't care for the little break near the end, though. What the hell were they thinking? Almost ruins the whole vibe. :( No, it's saved! :) They stop that business right before the end. That was kinda like going down an iced coffee waterfall and hitting a large chunk of sour milk right before landing in an almost too-shallow pool.
Maybe I oughta recuse myself from reviewing when I am this sleep-deprived?
You realize I now have to get my hands on an optigan. BTW which one is your favorite track? |

Hmmm, this is a little odd. Nice and laid back but I dunno, certainly not my thing. Its just to long I was quite bored by the end. Sounds like the sort of music you would hear in a lift, at times. |

This song is going to be in my head. A LONG time. It's a cool song stylistically, and while I wasn't crazy on it at first, it's grown. I like the tone of the song. A good choice, I'd definitely like to hear your favourite of theirs as well.
Solid choice.

Very laidback. I agree it sounds like some easylisening music from the 1970ties, but think maybe thatīs why i like it:]

I could see loving the song if I was in the mood. I'm more in an Electric Version, really upbeat/fast mood though...

Apl, thanks for your enthusiasm!
I think my favourite would be the opening track, "Oar". Lovely, sad pop gem. "If you see my oar float alone/You'll know I never made it back/And I'm never coming home/Again"... But I love the whole album. "Held" is also a personal favourite ("How come he's not like any of them/I don't know..."). One last thing: you might want to check http://www.optigan.com I'm still not sure I've fully grasped the concept of the Optigan.
Dean, I agree with you completely, these songs are growers. They just sneak inside your head. You can find more bouncy stuff on either of O.Y.'s two records, but I think they're at their best in that laidback, even a bit moody, yet whimsical vein of theirs.
Hey, Malax, I'm enjoying this. Great idea. I'm looking forward to the next submissions.

Very mellow... I like the beat a lot, and vocals are very nice. It's difficult to pull off such a dense sound and not have it intefere with the laid back mood, but they've done it well. Very nice. |

I like this idea. I'd like to get in on this. Much faster than a mix cd trade.

What a way to get the word(s) 'cha cha' into a song. Not my style so I thought I'd download the other song on that page, 'Poodleman' to see. 'Geppetto' was the better choice, but still not my thing.

I like--very soothing. Makes me want to pop a valium, break out my aqua feather duster and go into June Cleaver mode. Cha-cha-cha.

Anyone else look at the title and go, "cool, Belly cover"? or just me... Cool, hypnotic chill-out-y indie pop. Not my cup of tea at the moment, I don't think, but definitely in summer. I'm in an angry mood cos of the rain. It does go on a little without much real progression, though.
Bags posting Ten Masked Men on my next turn.

I like it, but I do think this is the kind of music that could very well make me go insane if I wasn't in a good mood.

I like the song, but I'm not sure whether it's more that I like the idea behind how it was created. I've never heard of an Optigan before, so I'm kind of having difficulty thinking about the song independently of the machine. That should cause me to hold off on a verdict, but for the time being I'll grant it approval.
Also, I'm definitely going to try to find out more about the Optigan sometime. Much credit to jediroller for providing something to learn.

Nice sounding song. Good background music. I think that the lead guitar and the main vocals need to be on another level - maybe higher volume. I think what I am trying to say is that it is monotone.

Should I leave this up till tomorrow or move on now? I was thinkin that at the end of this I could burn a CD with all the tracks except mine and have a pretty nifty mix CD. Im glad this has caught on. I always knew it had the potential. |

Why "except yours"? Now I want to know... and you're next on the list... So I guess it may be time to move on.
Although I love having my name in a thread subject and will be happy to enjoy the attention a little longer :)

If I was making a CD of stuff that other people had suggested to download I wouldn't want to include a song that I'd suggested. If you know what I mean. Thomas I'll be sure to add you. I'll leave this post up for another hour or so. Bask(?) while you can jedi. |

i hate to say it but this is refreshing to hear after Cheeseman's track (no offense cheeseman).. i pretty much agree with the comments thus far. it sounds nice, and there are some interesting things going on - very layered - and is generally very mellow. which is good, but you have to be in the mood for it. kind of like Yo La Tengo or some of the more mellow Stereolab.
which i also, sort of, consider more in the realm of background music.. something to have on while you're chillin' and don't really want to pay attention. |
