So there I was, doing some decorating and humming along to Killing Joke's new album over the weekend. It's very good in a riffy shouty punky hardcorey kind of way. Hasn't endeared me to my family though - the girls do not approve of Jaz Coleman's dulcet tones.
Jaz and his gang are obviously very angry chaps…even Dave Grohl’s drums sound pissed off. They rant about global capitalisation, loss of personal freedom, greedy corporations and corrupt governments. All powerful stuff indeed. This ire may explain the album art with the ‘devil/clown’ figure on the front. See for yourselves:
mmmmmmmmmm………anger.
…..but I then noticed the predominant colour surrounding said clowndevil bloke. The boys are clearly in torment and cannot decide between yellow and orange as a theme. They appear to have panicked and chosen ‘yellange’………or is it ‘oranllow’.
I’m afraid that my analysis of colour variation must stop here. My expertise does not lie in this field. I must bow down to Floop who has impressed us all (well some of us anyway) with his seemingly infinite knowledge of spectral wavelengths and chromatic densities.
Floop, over to you.

You're mistaken - Floop's knowledge of optics has proven lackluster at best, indeed, I sometimes suspect that he is chromatically inverted meaning that what we know as violet he sees as red, and what we know as orange he sees as yellow.
That said, your album in question, if one were to base such a decision solely on the cover and not the actual album or accompanying artwork, is yellow. Floop will invariable respond with orange or 'maroon'. Possibly white. :)
Just kidding, Tony. I still love 'ya.
Did you know that 1 in 30 people suffer unknowingly from chromatic inversion disorder? |

Ah, but the plot thickens. If you meander along to Cd Universe, this happens:
Some kind of subtle colour transmogrification.

Scary. That's definitely orange. Maybe this was their way of placating both myself and Floop. :)

I threw away ALL of our oranges and lemons this morning...........I can't deal with the contrariness and confusion that has entered my life!!!! No longer am I beset by a tiny red devil on my left shoulder and a white midget angel thingy on the other, they are replaced with an orange and a lemon - and they keep switching sides!!!!
I guess it might have been cause they all went bad, and I'm cleaning out the pantry as we're about to go on a family visit for a week, but I'm starting to question all of my motives now.
Oh, and I like Killing Joke,....or at least, I think I do - that album cover has got my panties all in a knot. |

Have you got a copy of this album Apl? If you have, what do you think of it? I was very pleasantly surprised. Goes against the addage that as bands get older they mellow out.

Nope - don't have this album (I don't think we do anyway), only a couple older ones (from husband's collection). I don't think I could manage to bring this album into our still relatively stable household. Do you think it's really worth the risk?
When I was very young, my favorite color was yellow (I was a very sad child, and needed cheering up), and as I got older, it was orange, which neurologists and other "scientists" have recently said triggers the intellect and stimulates higher/better focused or inspired thinking. So I guess if you have to choose one or the other, you can either be depressed and smart, or happy and stupid. It's a toss-up for me now. |

...er..well it's a hell of a lot heavier than the last few albums. Sits comfortably in my cd collection but may not appeal to all. I'd have a listen online first

I LOVE this record. Yellow or Orange. "Seeing Red" is my fave. Fans of Killing Joke have to hear the new Wire as well.

as i explained in Little Black Francis' "Yellow Soda" thread, colorblindness is a widespread epidemic. though largly psychosomatic in nature.
it's easy to explain why CD Universe has mis-callibrated their yellow density on their site, and why apl4eris at one time loved yellow, but later came to despise it. sadly, racism is still a big part of our civilization..
luckily, even for individuals fully in the throughs of colorblindness (i don't want to mention names [cult_of_frank]), there is still hope.. but not much. we've got a long way to go before we understand each other and learn to stop hating.
a perfect example of this is the album by The Go-Betweens, "Bright Yellow, Bright Orange"
ostensibly, this is a title that equally celebrates two completely different colors - the commonplace, everyday Orange, and the radiant beauty known as Yellow.
but then isn't it suspicious that the only one of those colors represented on the album is, dull dingy orange?
i rest my case. |

New Wire????!!!!! Oh holy crap I had no idea - thank you!!!! <looks inside very thin wallet> uhhh, yeah, that's cool, but I probably wouldn't like it anyway......
P.S. I don't despise yellow, floop. I just really like orange. I think I'm gonna try to get my families all spun up about this now. Let's see if it works - need to spice up this "Thanksgiving" crap!
Oh, and that "Jeff Goldbloom is watching you poop" thing: http://www.jeffgoldblumiswatchingyoupoop.com/pages/flyers.html
We're going to print that out and stick it in their bathrooms. |
