Ok, I tried using the search engine but it wasn't doing its job.
I remember this topic came up, about good headphones for mixing down songs. There was a pair of Sony headphones alot of you said were good and I was wondering what the model was.
Sony V-something. Or if anyone remembers where this was discussed you can post the topic. I'll do a search real quick again but it's being dumb.

Sony MDR-7506. They're fantastic. The pros use them. So do I.

I like Grados the best.
AKG's are pretty nice too. |

Dang, I forgot to look for headphones at Best Buy tonight.
They probably don't have Grados, and as for Sony, I think they have MDR-600's but I'm not too sure.

I would be surprised if Best Buy has the Sony MDR-7506...if so, I need to get a new pair.

i have the beyerdynamic dt831 recommended by headphone.com. I think they sound excellent, a good amount of isolation which is a miracle for college dorms, and comfortable enough to wear for 6 or 7 hours at a time. I always hear how mixing songs with headphones isnt a good idea though. Ive had some success with it, but i still see what people mean. I mixed my pixies tribute song on headphones (becuase i dont even have any speakers at college) and when i finally heard it on speakers, its pretty disappointing, mostly becuase im used to hearing a lot of little detail that i put into it that gets lost on only decent speakers. but if you want a good pair of headphones, i enjoy the dt831s

MDR-V600's are great headphones. I used them to mix my FB Tribute songs and also to master the whole tribute. They have a few minor problems. One is the annoying curly cord, the other is that they lack low end (around 60 HZ) unless you really press them to your ears.
MDR-7506's are a little better, but more expensive and harder to find.
Koss actually makes a great headphone, the A-250 I believe.
I'd stay away from the high end Sennheiser's though, because they break a lot.

Right now I have these old sony studio monitor headphones which I got from my grandfather after he died. He died about 10 years ago. They are Sony MDR-V6. They look like your average "big sony headphones" but they hurt my ears because the padding has slowly come off. I must get new ones.

So I went ahead and bought Sony MDR-v600's today at Best Buy. Only 56 bucks after my discount.
Jim, did you know about best buy's accomadations program? As employees we can get deals thru certain manufacturers. I think you order direct from them and the discount ends up being better than in-store, and you can order stuff best buy doesn't have in stock. Anyway, I found out Monster cables is one of the companies that you can do this with. I need to check out how much money off that would mean.

Anyone used the Sennheisser soundguard (i think) headphones that cancel out background noise. I'd love to have a go, it'd be like an anechoic chamber.

I'd imagine the noise cancelling must alter the sound you're listening to tho..? |

I just found that out last night...wow! Didn't even knew it existed...that's pretty damn sweet. Back when I worked at CompUSA they would have deals every now and then. Every year Intel would have something like an Intel mobo and the latest CPU for around $200. Their most recent offer was an Intel mobo and a P4 3Ghz for $200...christ!
