this i'll never do again.... cut a long story short. Got a buyer for our house in...June this year. Went for a house, in July (lots of people at the moment dont want to know unless you've already sold your house)...all was going well till we had a final look round after searches etc... matrimonial and the woman living there said "can you offer £5k less than the asking price then pay me £5k in cash?" as she wanted more than her ex hubby. so....we pulled out. a few hundred £ down the pan. after another couple of months, we found this house, we offered on it as we loved it - all ok. They said they could move quick, brilliant. Eventually we had to move out of our house (as buyer wanted in) and into a short term rental house (most of our stuff in storage.) weeks and weeks later... after plenty delays (down to seller "needing more time") and 2 or 3 different completion dates - 1 reason the seller gave was that 1 search for the house he was buying hadnt been returned 3 days before 1 date - and this was nearly 2 months after he had searches on this property he was buying... then his solicitor gave ours messages that (is 21st ok ? then is 28th ok ?) but after all this....finally completed today ! hoorah...then... got into house....oh he changed his house alarm code...me, the wife and our 19 month daughter punched this useless number in for...5 mins. we managed to call the estate agents and got the right one from the seller... we discovered he was "put out" in having to move out "quickly" !!!! sheesh... this is probably a garbled mess...though i'm so annoyed with the delay, then this guy changing the damn code for the alarm (and, coincidently, not leaving the alarm manual.......) its crazy ! whats more he left 2 upstairs windows open (so it was freezing !) anyone else have any nightmare house moves?

Yep. The house we bought sat empty for two years before we moved in and was a much-abused rental house for a long time. Not only did it need a lot of work just to make it habitable (and our building contractor totally screwed us over), but we soon discovered that many other critters had made it their own as well. Over the first six months of living there, we discovered that we shared our dwelling with: bats (and their sworn buddies, bedbugs) that lived in both the bedroom wall and the chimney, rodents in the attic, and a raccoon that had apparently had designated the inside of the bathroom wall as the place she felt like having a litter of babies every year. Also (for good measure, I guess) there were several feral cats and an opossum living under the house as well as a mammoth cockroach infestation. Home sweet home! We eventually had to hire the "Urban Wildlife Removal" (to the tune of about $5,000) company to seal all the various nooks and crannies and trap/remove all the creatures.
Oh yeah, and we had to paint the whole house ourselves (while living in another town and shuttling back and forth to do repairs). With a three-month-old baby. Never again.
Lest I sound ungrateful, we really do like our house. Now. Sort of. We're sort of afraid that it may fall down but, other than that, it's really quite cozy.
