| I beleive Boom-chicka-booom is considered an honest to goodness Pixies song. I've never heard a recording of it by Frank by himself, but there is course the old mp3 of the whole band doing it kicking around. It's a darn good song, and it gets in my head. Always makes me hungry for oranges. |

'Born In Chicago' is a Paul Butterfield Blues Band cover. PBBB were also on Elektra, same as Pixies in the states. The song was originally written by Nick Gravenides, who was in the band, although I can't remember in what capacity. 'Boom Chicka Boom' is, I'm pretty sure, a fully fledged Pixies song, although the version I have is either live or hugely rough demo, so obviously it wasn't considered up there with the rest of the songs. I like it though.

yeah, boom-chicka-boom was played on a boston radio show pre-come on pilgrim. they played it at 2 separate radio shows, both before their recorded cop. they never played it afterwards. guess it musta got shelved before cop was even released, but not too far before cause they played it 2 months before they went into the studio.
but it is a pretty cracking song. |

boom chicka boom is a pixies song the only one that can't be found in an official release.it's only on the fallen shelter bootleg(from a radio show)and there are two versions.the original tape that is a bit faster than normal and a later version speed corrected by someone.

to continue.... boom chicka boom was played and recorded these dates: 15/12/1986 WJUL Radio, Lowell “The Fallout Shelter” 44’ 18/01/1987 W.E.R.S. Studios, Emerson College, Boston 41’
the recording from the 2nd show is far superior to that of the first. have these been put on the ftp yet? i remember there was talk about it a while back when the WERS shows first surfaced since these were radio shows, which are allowed, but cannot access the ftp to check. |

a semi interesting side note.. there's a girl in one of those shows who is their first manager, and she does most of the talking (annoyingly)..
i actually worked with her a few years ago. one day, she casually told me that she "used to manage the Pixies".. which of course, i couldn't believe.
anyway, they fired her after they made their deal with 4AD. but yeah, she used to manage them in the very beginning.. i always pressured her to tell me stories or anecdotes but she didn't say much. she said Charles was totally pretentious and obsessed with Brian Wilson. :) |

The recording on the slower version is better than the recording on the faster version...but I was under the impression that the faster version was the "correct" version and the slower one was incorrect speed, caused by stretched tape. I don't know for sure though, where did you get that info Mun Chien? BTW, I originally got both versions from you on Soul Seek, haha.

i dare say mum chein got it off pixieslive.com where they say they made a speed corrected version. and as for the sound quailty, i think the WERS studio radio session has got pretty damn good sound quality...it sure ain't A+, but considering it's age and that it was transfered from tape i think i think it's top notch... i listen to the recording quite regularly....whereas the fallout shelter is pretty poor...sure it was ok when it was the only recording of this type and age out there, but since the WERS ones surfaced a few months ago, it's become more redundant, albeit, not any less essential.
but yes, the sooner these (esp the WERS) get up on the ftp the better in my opinion. |
