Depends where you go in Southampton. Hints and tips: go to the Joiners Arms, but absolutely nowhere else in St. Mary's! I cannot stress this enough. Stay away from Northam and Lord's Hill also. Hang around at the uni, its pretty cool.

Yeah, fair enough you're in a bad mood over that. Gutted for you, but looking at Wales last night they were outclassed. They were never likely to win, really, although they put up a fair fight. Giggs must be kicking himself for hitting the post. Good job Paul Jones, also, a couple of fine saves. Guess who he plays for? hmm, Southampton. Notice a recurring theme here.

Agreed. I think expectations were raised to unrealistic levels during the early part of the campaign. I would have been pleased to see them get through but ecstatic if we'd won the rugby. Don't know if you've been following the real World Cup but I was delirious with excitement during the Wales v England game (until we lost of course).
I understand that hell has frozen over as I am preparing myself to support England this weekend.

What about Blackburn Rovers?? or Kidderminster. Anyway what about those rakings in the Cup Does the European Cup have their own ranking system? I know that Sweden went through without lossing a point, but come on before Holland. I think that they should look at the Fifas rankings. My favorite pickouts: Czech Republic Germany Denmark Lithuania In that group we would kick ass.
And if you cant read my Danish/English Bite me

The US and Canada are into the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Youth Championships. The US plays Argentina next. If they win that one, it will be a nice showing for the US. Adu hasn't scored yet, but the US scored a penalty kick when he was brought down in the box. |

This sucks Denmark it out of the cup, lost to Slovenien, and Hungary(biggest defeat in 11 years) Think i´ll change the topic back to just football. My money goes to Norway for the cup-win.

umm, football (ie soccer) is much more popular than american football globally. the world cup for example. that reminds me, the world series in baseball....thats rather a bit of false advertising isnt it?
I stopped reading up to your part, misleadtheworld. I totally agree/also have a problem with Americans saying that they are the world champions in baseball, basketball, football, etc; though I do believe that the team that wins the World Series, NBA Championship or Super Bowl could hands down beat any foreign team. The thing is that they did not play any foreign team to earn the title on the other hand the champions of the FIFA, Hockey, Rugby, Cricket, etc. world cups are truly world champions. The reason why I stopped reading the posts is because I truly hate organized sports. I think organized sports, at least in America, creates a facade for the success of our future generations. Many children hold on tightly the hope that one day they will strike it rich as an athlete while they slip on core values and lessons due to their tunnel vision.
Over dramatic example: Some-guy: “Hey so-n-so, how are you going to get out the hood?” So-n-so: “Shit, I don’t know? Maybe I can be a rapper or an athlete or a comedian or something?..”
Fuck it. That whole scenario is just so depressing that I don’t want to go on. I hope that you all get my point.

For those who scoff at the helmets/padding in American/Canadian Football: http://apnews.myway.com//article/20040104/D7VROO8G0.html
Study: Football Hits Similar to Crashes Jan 3, 10:44 PM (ET)
By CHRIS KAHN
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - Football players were struck in the head 30 to 50 times per game and regularly endured blows similar to those experienced in car crashes, according to a Virginia Tech study that fitted players' helmets with the same kinds of sensors that trigger auto air bags.
University researchers are compiling a database of blows to the head their starting players endured this year, with plans to study how much trauma the brain can take. The study adds to a growing body of research into concussions, the blows to the head that helped end the careers of quarterbacks Troy Aikman of the Dallas Cowboys and Steve Young of the San Francisco 49ers, among others.
The data so far surprised team physician P. Gunnar Brolinson, who said he didn't realize players were absorbing so many serious hits, especially since only about five came off the sidelines this season with concussions.
"There are probably factors that we don't fully understand that make players better able to withstand higher accelerations (football hits) than other people," he said.
It's possible that some players can withstand stronger blows because they have stronger neck and shoulder muscles or that they're simply more robust genetically than others, Brolinson said.
The researchers recorded 3,312 hits during 35 practices and 10 games this season, rotating eight specially fitted helmets among 38 players. Project leader Stefan Duma said offensive linemen endured the most hits, followed by defensive linemen, running backs, linebackers, wide receivers and defensive backs. Quarterbacks recorded the fewest hits.
"If you ask somebody what kind of head injury are you going to worry about, everybody thinks of the receiver running down the sideline getting popped by the safety," Duma said. "But to me, the interesting part is going to be these lower speed but high frequency hits we're seeing on the (offensive and defensive) line. The fact that these players are getting headaches all the time after every game, there's something going on there."
Duma, an engineer who specializes in car crashes and safety equipment, plans to use the data to improve protective gear for players. The data also could help researchers understand and prevent concussions, a common condition in college football that can be hard to diagnose.
The helmets measure hits in multiples of the force of gravity. Half of the hits recorded this season were greater than 30 Gs, Duma said. The hardest hits measured more than 130 Gs.
"An impact of 120 Gs would be like a severe car accident, which you could survive if you were wearing a seat belt," Duma said.
Duma said Tech plans to expand the program using more helmets next year. With enough monitoring, he said, medical staffs should be able to reduce football concussions by accurately predicting the number and degree of blows a player can handle.
The monitoring helmets were developed by SIMBEX, a New Hampshire company that develops safety equipment. The system transmits the angle and severity of impacts from the helmets to a laptop Duma monitors from the sidelines.
SIMBEX founder and owner Rick Greenwald said his company will begin selling the monitoring system this year. Equipping a team of 50 to 75 players would cost $165,000 to $195,000, Greenwald said. |

Well i dont know what kind of "football" you mean. If think you that american sport like rugby, only you use protection. If you look at a rugby player, he´s buttugly no teeth and sometimes bleeding from a headwound. Still respect to the rugbyplayers, but american football? come on be real, they use helmets and paddings. No fun at all. Maybe you should called it rugby for crybabies.
