buahahahahahaha.that is really the funniest statement i ever heard.even greece has more chances to win a world championship.i know that they are trying to sell soccer in the u.s but it won't be easy in a country were people prefer baseball or basketball or golf.maybe the women's team has some chances to do good but that's about it.with no serious clubs or championship you will never have enough players for a decent national team. dream on.

Yet if the US went around boasting that we can kick any country's ass in Football the rest of the world would say "who cares?" (correctly). Dont be surprised that the vast majority of Americans dont care who wins the Soccer World Cup.
That being said, soccer is getting bigger and bigger in the US and when America does win a World Cup in Soccer think how BITTER the rest of the world will be! And the best part is that most of the US players will be immigrants or 1st/2nd generation Americans - they or their parents will CHOOSE to live and prosper here in the good 'ol USA. The American dream LIVES!!!!
I have my money on the Canadians when it comes to curling though...
Oh yeah, GO MAN-U!!!
National pride is always worthless, but I guess it is healthier to base pride on sports than bombing countries and calling on support from God(a little inapropriate - i agree).
Curling? he he, I do believe they lost the final at the olympics. Canada probably got more curling players than there's people living in the miniature country that crushed them - which says something about the genetic potential for sports on the other side of the atlantic. If you'd get the afro-americans to play football, then you'd have a chance. But the weakling gene-heritage of religious wackos will never provide you with gold. And MAN-U suck. I repeat - SUCK. They sucked even more when they had Beckham, but they still SUCK. |

denmark's got too big heads to ever win anything again, i'm afraid. and they're too grouchy. I think it is time for spain - they've never won anything even though they've had the best league for decades. If they can qualify. |

Hold it, Spains Real madrid won champions league in 97-99 and 2001. Why Spain havent won any international cup yet, is a mystery?? They surely has the players to make it big. What do you mean grouchy?? I know Thomas Graversen is a somewhat brutal player at times, but so is a lot of players.

They look like they're menstruating - constantly. Unstable and in a bad mood. The women of male football. And of course, they all have potatoes in their throats which make them look like mutated birds with an incomprihensible language. But enough of the dane bashing, it was just for fun. Spain is a mystery - i agree. Real also won the champions league plenty times before it became the champions league. I think spain has a too intense relationship with football. If they'd relax just a little bit, they'd cruise home victorious. And make sure to be in madrid when they win. It would be the most likely place in the world to get laid that evening. |

Coming soon to a sheet near you (watch for it's official debut at the Briar in Saskatoon), a way to prevent bad calls from ruining a competition as they have time and again in the past (Randy Ferby, anyone?):
http://www.eyeonthehog.com
We've got it installed in a few rinks around the world where athletes are training for the next world briar, so you should see it there if you don't follow the Canadian briar coming next spring and also held here in Saskatoon. It's just been completed, so it's new, unique, and not out there a whole lot yet, but it will be...

Very nice. Mr. Ferby should benefit from this. I can't believe how popular curling is becoming on the East Coast of Canada as well.
Back to football - Canada played Ireland in Dublin today. Got skunked 3-0! Lets put skates on those Irish and see if they can still play football?!

Do you seriously expect Canada to beat Ireland? Roy Keane could take you on his own! As for Euro 2004, Spain sounds a good bet, although France, Italy and yes, England will be up there. It would suck if Germany won, no offence intended anywhere.

Sounds personal to me, know now the Danes once were Vikings. So just because theres no more lands to conquer should we just change moods?? What is it they say down there in Spain manjana manjana (tomorrow, tomorrow) maybe that´s why Spain is were they are today. Having siestas doing nothing about anything. Sorry about that but you had it coming. Yes Denmark has a Spain-complex kicked us out of Mexico in 86, many times before and after. Still theres no need to rub my face in it

I'm not spanish, not even close. I like spain though. And i apologize for refering to your team as abunch of women. However - I do think they are grouchy. The danes are grouchy, the germans look like machines, the brits look stupid (come on, Beckham...) and the spanish look too dandy. There's something with them all. It's a part of the international championship of team bashing which has always been an integrated part of football. |

Apologize accepted(Ivandivel) My country dosent bash everyother Football nation, only Sweden and Norway. Sweden because we and them had some pretty though matches against eachother, we call Sweden our archenemy. Norway because they think Football ina different way, Denmarks way is attack is the best defence, and Norway plays with all 11 players in defence. The former coach from Norway Drillo made fun of our way of thinking Football(hate the guy) But other nations no, countries like England, Italy, Spain, France, Portugal, Holland, Germany we look and try to learn. Off the six above i like Holland best, because they also play offensive.

Italy has a long history of an extreme defensive playing style (at least for their national team). England? Look to England? For what? Football is all about winning - even more so when countries battle. Entertainment is important at the club level, but it is important to remember that it is not a beaty contest. I could understand such emphasis if one was a female, but being a male i do not understand. I have a primitive mind regarding football; win at all costs. Most agree that Spain must have some of the world's best players and clubs - and they may play beatyfull football - but they haven't won anything yet. Have they made their country happy? I think not. Have they experienced championship after championship with tragedy? I do believe they have. Today - no-one can afford to ignore defense. Football in general has for a long time developed into more and more defense. I am sure that even Denmark now has a solid defensive base to allow them to attack. Argentine was, if i remember correctly, pretty defensive last time they won. Brazil did not entertain too much last time they won. Germany has won plenty times - they have always been extremely organized with a briliant defense. Dead boring to watch, but pretty entertaing for germans (i would assume - i'm not german either).
And Cheeseman1000; my grandmother would anihiliate (if that is the correct spelling) your boys by swinging her gigantic breasts. Then she'd feed them to her canaries. Whats a zimmer frame by the way? |

I think that, to win a big tournament like World cup, European cup, UEFA or Champions league you have to be able to play both tactics. Even so i seam to admire the team who plays offencive, no matter what. To control the ball, you control the match. But sometimes Football isent fair. I dont understand what you have against English Football? I like the Premier league more than the Spanish 1 div, bit more discipline, and more even team. As for Germany, i´m afraid their winning days are over. Did you know that Germany has over 5 mill Footballplayers, in Denmark there are about 5 mill citizens. Brazil bahh Rivaldo should go to hollywood, he´s a pretty good actor.

I agree, attack is more fun than defense. But, it has nothing to do with faireness. Football is ALWAYS fair. As long as you play by the rules, the one who wins is the fair and just winner. Football involves two aspects - scoring goals on your opponent- and preventing your oppononent from scoring goals. None of these are more worthy than the other. I have nothing against english football. I just think it is highly overrated. And 80% of the stars are imported. Okidoki, i shal bid farewell. Good luck at the championships!

I am sure Roy could beat us. Unfortunately he went AWOL on the Irish team due to his man-love for Alex Ferg and Man Unt. What a stand-up gentleman! Maybe Robbie Keane could beat us on his own?!

OK, you're gonna have to start spelling those in English! Brendan, the Irish could beat Canada if the whole team weren't there? Did you see Duff's goal, btw? Genius man. Ivan: Zimmer frame = erm, difficult to describe. A small climbing frame with wheels designed to pull old people around. Or something.
Finally, I'd just like to say how good it is to see a good constructive use of time on this forum: football time is never wasted. England obviously deserve to be above Turkey (not made it), Holland (scraped through in play-offs), Spain (never won, never gonna) and Mexico (what?).
Finally again, I think all you Americans should start following football. Everyone pick a team in the English Premier League and I'll keep you posted with the results. Southampton will reign. Eventually. I hope this is Chelsea's year, so get your dibs in.
Finally III: the return. Commiserations to Scotland (6-0, doh!) and Wales (denied) on not making it through the playoffs tonight.
