Greek Canadian! Not American. Though definitely important. :)

I'll get to those emails when I get home as I have a crapload of them (not all related to FB.Net of course) and can't go through them at work. Well I could, but...

I'll reply tonight to you and the others, though, thanks for getting involved. Incidentally, the maupos rinokeros was paraphrased from an old short story my cousin & I wrote in Greek school. :)

I'm not sure that it hasn't been lost to the ages, but I remember something about a trip to Pluto and the fact that he was always referred to as O maupos rinokeros evertime we talked about him even though his colour played absolutely no part in the story itself and was mentioned only in the narrative. Pretty revolutionary. :)

Dictators are pretty interesting. Hitler is credited with being an evil guy, which is true, but so many more people died under Joseph Stalin's government...

I don't know much about Mussolini.

I did start reading "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" which contained alot about Hitler. Apparently he started out as an artist in Vienna (which I'm sure most of you guys are aware of.) I wonder if he had made it as an artist, if he still would've turned to politics? Then we may never have had an Adolf Hitler, but I'm sure it would've been someone else...

I'd say that the generals under Hitler are just as evil if not moreso than Adolf himself...like Goebbels, and Goering. All the fucked-up medical atrocities they performed on the Jews...

Half my family are from Poland, and they say that the Russians were worse than the nazis back in WW2. Stalin doesn't seem to get the same recognition as an evil dictator as does Hitler, when he was as bad if not worse. The book Stalingrad, by Anthony Beevor (I think) highlights the brutality of Stalin towards his own people.

WW2 is very interesting to learn about, I have a load of books, although I read more about the battles and less about the politics of it all. My friend here in China has a copy of Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, so I might have to borrow that. I'dhave to agree with you though Glacial, if it weren't Hitler it would have been someone else.

What about Kissinger though??? Anyone read or seen The Trials of Kissinger?

Who's the man that won't cop out when there's danger all about?

To Glacial,

being a first year History student, this is what I think:

as for joseph stalin:
-he is responsible for more dead people then Hitler
-the russians were (with USA and Canada of course) responsible for ending WWII

Perhaps Russia/USA/Canada helped end the war, but the British deserve an immense amount of praise for holding the line.

I agree, the Brits did pull out the stops and rally together to repell the Nazis, which was a phenomenal achievement and something which makes me very proud of the old folks in the UK. However, although I am not too fond of the US of today we would have never have been able to do it without the supplies coming from the Americans. That deserves alot of respect also.

Being as it's a somewhat recreation of the war, Call of Duty, the latest WWII-based PC game, has a level where you play as the Russians crossing the river (starts with an A?) into Stalingrad, on boats...it's somewhat of the "Russian D-Day" type level, where you have artillery sinking boats around you, planes diving down and firing into your boat, all the while the generals and commanders in charge are barking propaganda, telling you how they will shoot any traitors who try to escape...a few men lose it and decide to jump out of the boat after the planes fire into the boat and the commanders in charge shoot them in the water. Pretty scary shit...then they're handing out guns on the docks and there aren't enough, they tell you if you don't have a gun, follow someone who does, and hand you a cartridge of ammo. Pretty fucking grim. God damn, I love these games.
