Paul Bowles (author of Hundred Camels in the Courtyard....etc...) mentions Cafe Noir in his novels. These places are where people can go (in Northern Africa) and sit down to a cup of tea and smoke their Kif without the hassle of the authorities. (Just a thought) Frank also asks for someone to pass him the Narghile on his most recent work!?

I'm sure this is wrong, but I picture that one diner painting by Hopper or Hooper or Ferley or Jack Tripper or whatever his name is.

Funny I was thinking "Nighthawks at the Diner," but then I thought, "that's just my Tom Waits brain."

I think Cafe Noir is a chain of Starbuck-esque coffee shops in the UK... hold on a minute that could be Cafe Nero, I forget I was always so Drunk in the UK. Not sure if Frank would Derive this reference from a coffee shop, but, there is a reference to Bowie in Wester Star. |
