So, i recently discovered that Blur is actually a great band. It took me a while, i hate that britpop crap, countryhouse, girls who like boys who hate girls, etc. But they´re over that, right? Wich album to buy then? Suggestions welcome. "Out of time" is fantastic. I saw them last night. Trimm Trabb was really great. Who´s got the new Quasi album, "hot shit"? Is it worth buying or what? Is "our anniversary" the best song in Smog´s Supper? And recomend me some mp3´s. I need to get into new bands. New as in bands i´m too lazy and poor and european to get into. Not in the "they´ve released their fist album this year" sense. Good songs. Mellow, rocking, i don´t care. Ok, go.

as for blur (not into all that sleater kinney stuff, or whatever they're called, heard it all before), their self-titled album was their best in my opinion. haven't liked anything they've done since really. |

As far as Blur albums are concerned, if you don't like the britpop sound do not buy "Modern Life is Rubbish", "Parklife" or the "Great Escape". "Leisure" their first album is quite good but if you like "Out of Time" then "Think Tank", "Blur" and "13" are the probably best place to start. |

I guess I like the Britpop stuff better, but then, XTC is my second favorite band, so that's no surprise. I thought the self-titled album was only okay, and I haven't heard much from 13 or Think Tank. Modern Life Is Rubbish, Parklife, and The Great Escape were all excellent, though.

Blur - they keep getting better. 13 was my fav until Think Tank. I think TT is sheer brilliance.
The drummer for Quasi (Janet Weiss) is also in S-K, but she's also Sam Coomes' ex-wife (Sam is the other half of Quasi.)
Featuring Birds is their best album by far, imo, Hot Shit is pretty weak shit, tho a few good moments..Sword of God wasn't much better, but the other earlier albums are pretty good.
Love XTC too, another band that keeps putting out better albums, imo. They're due for something soon, aren't they?
The Rheostatics are the greatest rock band from Canada, and Whale Music was voted 'Best Canadian Album' by CBC a few years ago..i highly recommend picking that up as well..similar thread to Blur and XTC, with cool, catchy, creative tunes..more 'art-rock' from the Rheo's tho..amazing. |

I don't advise getting XTC and INXS mixed up. Andy Partridge may well take the hump and set Carlos on you.

Ironic, innit, that Blur only got good after they ditched the Englishness. I was pleasantly surprised that they were still good after Graham Coxon left (guitarist, big Pixies fan). I'd definitely recommend his solo stuff as well. Did all you across-the-ponders get Gorillaz and Mali Music as well? Tis good stuff.

SWERVEDRIVER!!!!
I won't rest until the lot of you sings their praises. They've got the rock power (if you listen closely, you can hear the Stooges buried in there) with the upmost pop songwriting mastery. Very guitar driven band, and the perfect blend of what could be described as British and American rock influences. Simply wonderful band, in my personal top five faves of all time, and easily, without question, the most CRIMINALLY overlooked bands of the last twenty years. Here's a link where you can download many a live/rare track, although I'd recommend going straight to the LP's for the real stuff.

same....they have proven very popular with Mogwai fans and nonfans alike. this is the blurb Mogwai have on their shop site about the item: The t-shirt says it all and nothing they have done since the introduction of these shirts in 1999 has proven otherwise.
