There is an article in "Liberation" today about Where is my mind. It is a story about the carrer of this song. The author talks about the lyrics and says that this song has become a hymn because of his presence in a lot of movies.

I began translating it into english, but then I thought it would be funnier with Babelfish. So here it is:

<<In the soundtrack of Janis and John, the movie of Samuel Benchetrit with fire Marie Trintignant, appear obviously Janis Joplin, John Lennon, Ten Years After, Barclay James Harvest... in short the inventory of the historic buildings. But, at the end of (play) the list, emerges Where' S My Mind? of Pixies. As if a still fresh hair fell into an old vegetable soup. But, rather quickly, the arguments idéologico- générationnels leave room to this simple observation: the singular audio-visual trajectory of Where'S My Mind? It appears on a compilation autumn-winter of Inrockuptibles in 1988. One buys while running Surfer Rosa, the first album of Pixies, to check the promises of the title teaser. It cannot better make the chaos mental of the moment ("Your head will collapse goal there' S nothing in it"). Assumption of the general distress confirmed a few years later by Nirvana (Smells Like Teen Spirit) or even Mylène Farmer (Disillusioned), in another kind. Placebo includes it in its concerts, way subsidiary testimony towards Frank Black, the leader of Pixies. The title reaches its final statute then, that of "generic song", with clean as with illustrated, adjectival like substantive, and the drugs of the same name. Curative formula fallen into the public domain. Where' S My Mind? takes a character hymnic. It becomes the generic hit of Fight Club, the film worship of David Fincher. Edward Norton and Brad Pitt play there the two faces of same Western, consuming and schizophrenic young man, taken between its coincery of employee legitimist and his animal impulses. The first notes start on the last image of Fight Club: the chaotic explosion of a downtown populated buildings which break down in chain. Rebelote with Janis and John: Where' S... re-appears on the last image of Marie Trintignant, radiant and detached, disguised in icon sixties évanescente. Right before the end, in good metaphor of a title whose destiny seems to accredit and to accept confusion. >>

Ha! I went to school with the guy who wrote that. I was wondering if his column had been discontinued, I had not seen in for a while on the Liberation website (and I don't buy the paper)...

Anyway, not very nice of him to spoil the ending of Fight Club for the few people who haven't seen it yet...

Well, the movie sucks anyway, so it's no big deal.

Woah there, don't go knocking fight club ok. If it wasn't for that movie a whole new generation including myself may have missed out on the Pixies and subsequently Frank Black!

For ten thousand years he slept, his mind feeding on the nightmares of the weak. Now he has awakened. As the night turned crimson, the fire-blade shattered and his power died. Then, the slaughter began...

Exactly what I was thinking. I mean that's a very "mystic" movie or what you should call it so what he reveals ruins much of it. But it's truly an outstanding ending with WIMM playing. It fits so perfectly!
