or as some call it, "self-titled"..
it's probably my favorite Frank Black record.
i especially love the very yellow design (yellow being one of my favorite colors).. how about you guys?
part of me thinks that Teenager Of The Year is better.. but then i always come back to good old "Unambiguously Yellow".. and why wouldn't i? not only is it the best Frank Black record... but it's got a nice ring to it.. "The Unambiguously Yellow Album".. "The Unambiguously Yellow Album".. i just like saying it. rolls off the tongue quite nicely i think . and just saying it conjurs up pleasant memories for me of listening to it. and looking at the color yellow.
did i mention that i love yellow?
that's a big part of the reason why i love Unambiguously Yellow Album (aka, Frank's first record).. just it's sheer yellowness..
old yeller.
you can never go wrong with it.
that's what i say.
unless we're talking about snow. that's the one and only case where yellow is a bad thing.
don't eat unambiguously yellow snow.

Well I had a look at the CD yesterday, it's sooooooooooooooooo orange. I wish it had something yellow on the cover, something that would make it less orange.
Don't eat orange snow.

There are just as many white stripes as yellow stripes on the front cover, that was my point about calling it the white album is nearly as justiified as yellow... the white is the snow, the yellow the pee. Maybe you are accidentally or unbewittingly eating unambiguously yellow snow...
it's still orange

Orange Spine, Orange back, orange disc, orange mountains, orange album. Yellow is WAY in the minority. This would not be the first time that I or anyone else I'm sure has associated a given album with a single color, even if that color is not technically the domninant color on the cover. I've thought about this before - take In Utero - though the cover is largely yellowish, I was much quicker to associate it with the fleshy pink of the tray card and disc. Thus it is a pink album.

what is this orange album you guys speak of?
cult of frank, The Unambiguously Yellow Album is Frank's first album. released in 1993.. it's just called "Frank Black".. but because it's so yellw, most people i know simply call it, "The Unambiguously Yellow Album".. i think it got that name because, it's considered by most experts to actually be, literally, the most yellow album that's ever been released. the exact chromatic density and vibrance of the yellow stripes are, what color experts like to call, "a perfect yellow".. as opposed to being a shade of something..
anyway, sorry for getting off topic. what are some of your guyzes favorite tracks off TUYA? (lately i'm all about Fu Manchu. love those horns!)

I would have to say 'Czar'.
I believe FB was paying homage to Czar Nicholas II of Russia who, as we all know, had golden (or to be exact, yellow) highlights throughout his hair.
Yet another subtle, but powerful, reference to the undisputed God of all colours.

Czar is actually about John Denver. Nice try though.

not that anyone cares but me and my brother call it the "camicaze" album due to the japanese war flag design and an extremely low iq.

I still think it's a "rays" theme, the stripes are rays, perhaps from the sun, perhaps from something else in the sky, or perhaps something other-worldy. I think it's "kamakazi" too btw. I like that name for it too.

I never tire of listening to "Adda Lee"
As far the Russian Czar thing, I don't think so. I heard him say from the Kummquat sessions back when TUAYA came out it was specefically about John Denver.

I did and wrote this on the other thread...
LBF: "It could be called definitely more yellow than orange on the front with a shade of green and black and some orange mountains and the yellow and white stripes and the white album just as much as yellow according to the front but the back is all encompassing orange except for the yellow text same with the sides inside a wide array of colors that could make impossible to choose from burnt sienna, red, weird computer art work with an apparent stripe theme with a purplish blue and off yellow a desert like yellow funny black and red hat album with blue and green and pink with more stripes that look like weird shadows or abbey road more yellow sun light stripes with a funny green suit on nuzzling a fucking lizard yellow and blue butterfly album yellow and blue funny scary glasses millions of permutations color and texture of the sunlight stripes theme black and white funny suit in the hillbilly garage with orange and blue blue or fuckin yellow with cute frank standing on the ugly strip in nice clothes or fake him looking at a fake sun on top of stripes that don't shine from the sun anymore, white light and flat curves album"

How about yellowy-orange or orangey-yellow. Seems like the important thing is the colour of the album rather than the songs, so we must get our priorities right...
I love Los Angeles, Ramona and Hang On To Your Ego, by the way.

You'll probably accuse me of being biased (and why wouldn't you?), but I honestly believe that the Yellow album is superior in every way (including cover art) |
