By reading all the reviews of Fb there is something I am wondering : are all the critics made by FB very fanatics or are they sometimes made by people who know FB from a short time?? Ok that's normal : it's a FB forum and most of the people are supposed to love his music ! But if only fans post critics maybe they are not as objective as if they would come from a new comer?? For me who follow FB since its beginning in 1993 I never can say bad things about him because I followed all his career...if one of his concert is disappointing I will say "No problem, it was great last year and will be great next year) but what about new comer?? So I would be interested by getting live reviews from people that saw FB for their first time that year with comparison with other artists they could have seen (I don't know Hawksley Workman, Stephen malkmus, Bruce Springsteen or whatever)...just to get real objective opinions! |

I brought a good friend whom I'd given several FB songs in advance like Bullet, Freedom Rock, Calistan, etc and his girlfriend who hadn't even heard an FB song before, and they were both floored by concert. Before it neither of them were interested in driving 2-3 hours to see him again in Regina, and after they both really regretted not getting tickets. But they have been converted to Catholicis. The Saskatoon show was exceptionally great, though, and I honestly believe that of all the people at the concert who'd never heard FB before, every single person walked away an FB fan. Maybe not rabid yet, but definitely they'd pick up his stuff if they saw it, and many seemed to stop off at the merch table.

I see what you mean, I think the people on here can be somewhat objective, if they go to more than one show they'll say which was better, ext, and won't be afraid to criticize certain aspects. I brought a couple semi-fans and they had a good time. |

Well, I am a fairly new fan. I got into Frank's music the summer of 2002 and I didnt see the man live until early this year, I think March? I took my girlfriend and another friend who only had barely heard of Frank Black. We were all newbies to Frank live, but we are all concert veterans. I have seen countless bands live, and Frank Black and the Catholics were easily among the best. I was floored by how the catholics can crank out the AMAZING tunes one after another after another...The energy between the crowd and the band was so intimate and exciting! After the last song, the crowd cheered so loud you could barely hear at all! We cheered and cheered for a good minute while Frank & the C's stood on the stage and Frank looked very content from the applause. They played one more song....and it rocked (Jane the Queen of Love). I hope they come back to Austin again next year! And thats my two newbie cents. |

Brought my girlfriend and my sister to the concert in Lyon yesterday evening. They didn't know Frank Black but found the concert amazing. They were very impressed by the energy of the band (playing without any pause nor drinking a bit), Frank Black's voice bright and powerfull (he's able to do whatever he wants), Rich Gilbert's presence. It seems also that they prefered the new songs (Nadine, New house of the pope, Jane the queen of love, How you went so far...). They had a very good time however.
A la prochaine... |
