Well...I'm definetly more of a Farrar man than a Tweedy, but am gradually listening to more and more Wilco and gradually liking it more and more. Okay, I'll admit for the past few weeks I've listened to both "Being There" discs at least once a day. I'm converting, I guess. No Farrar for you, Miked? |

well i downloaded a few tracks by uncle tupelo (i heard wilco first before them). I wasn't too fond to be honest. You should check out summerteeth and yankee hotel foxtrot if youre getting into wilco, great cds. Maybe ill download some solo farrar see what its like.

I am just putting the out-of-genre-ish ones:
Mandy Patinkin Don Byron John Coltrane (before he found God) Miles Davis (before he found Herbie Hancock boring, but after he knew Coltrane) Milt Jackson Digable Planets John Prine Dar Williams Iris DeMent Lyle Lovett Some Sondheim Musicals (esp. Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park With George, Pacific Overtures) Judy Garland Elvis David Starobin (guitar guy) Bobby McFerrin (when he's not screwing around with gay pop crap) Cecilia Bartoli and lots of old old stuff that is old like Robert Johnson and even Al Jolson

In "rock" music: Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, White Stripes, Fun Lovin' Criminals, Breeders, Bowie, Roxy Music & Bryan Ferry, Elvis, and a lot of old punk/post punk (Ramones, Dead Kennedys, Clash, Talking Heads, Devo, Hüsker Dü and all). Apart from that, a helluvalot of electronic music: better talk about labels then. I love everything that comes out on UR, Planet E, Mutech, F Communications, Gigolo, Novamute, Ninja Tune, Solid, Ware, Axis, React, !K7...

i probably have the oddest collection of favourites... obviously frank, pixies, breeders, bowie, joy division, velvet underground, white stripes.. etc but i also love stevie wonder, marvin gaye, james brown, al green and 70s funk like curtis mayfield, willie hutch, roy ayers and lets not forget abba! depends on the mood.. sometimes dance acts like money mark and beastie boys hit the spot. nice topic - interested to see that we arent all devoted to just one act. cheers Bazza

okay, let's see...
frank black (seen him five times, i think you're aware of my proven track record) richard buckner (also seen him five times - his new CD "Impasse" is very, very, very good) steve earle (seen him twice, building up my collection - his new CD is too short!) tom waits (i own every single thing that this man has ever recorded, saw him in NYC in '99) uncle tupelo (saw them in '94 on their last tour) son volt (saw them twice, once opening for John Mellencamp!) jay farrar (caught a nice solo show with jay performing with Mark Spencer of the Blood Oranges) wilco (seen them twice, the first time only two months after Son Volt performance on same stage!) jim o'rourke (never seem this guy, not sure i want to - seems more like a studio wizard) mike watt (this guy here, well he puts on the greatest rock show known to man - seen him five times) bottle rockets (great songwriting, saw them just once)
huh. this has become more involved than i have time to deal with at work. you get the gist of it, though. i like music, i see a lot of shows.

The thing I love about Frank Black is that there doesn't seem to be a barrier of what type of music fan he attracts. All types of people and music lovers love Frank Black. As you will see from my list it is not very similiar to what has already been stated.
Frank Black The Pixies Ozzy Osbourne/Black Sabbath The Beatles / Solo Paul McCartney In Flames Lacuna Coil Keith Urban Moonspell CCR/John Fogerty Weezer Dimmu Borgir Elvis Tim Mcgraw Soilwork Opeth
Like the rest of the board I am pretty diverse in what I like. Those are some of my favorite bands. |

not to judge or be judged here I go
Frank Black or Frank Black and the Catholics Radiohead Beatles Doors Pink Floyd Led Zeppelin Bob Dylan Days of the new Tom Petty Also, all the bands on the Singles soundtrack
I used to be really into metal from 76' with Kiss as a little kid to Ozzy 80 - 82 to Early 90's and I still like Metallica but, Frank Black holds my record for shows. I have seen Iron Maiden 8 times last time in 92'. I think I have seen Frank Like 15 times now but, I live in Los Angeles. |
