Has anyone else noticed the latest way cool kids are wearing their hats?....I've picked up on yet another stupid fashion accessory....it involves wearing a trucker's cap (those cheap foam truckstop baseball caps)....but wait a minute, to sport this piece of classic americana in the latest style, one must wear it, how should we say.....a little to the side, a la Ashton Kushner to be a real cool kid. this, in my opinion is one of those stupid ass fads that make you ashamed of being human, not unlike rolling up jeans in the 80s. it seems that the predominant rule to these styles is, "no, you gotta wear it like this..."...personally, i feel that whenever things like this predominate, we are at a cultural lull.... what do you think? have you noticed the same stupid shit, or do you have an example of other stupid fashion accessorizing? |

this fits into my "tired of ironic t-shirts" thread nicely.. usually anyone sporting a nifty, oh-so-hilarious Atari or Alf shirt is usually wearing a trucker cap as well.
again, i blame Urban Outfitters.

Ah, yes I've noticed dumb kids wearing trucker hats in this fashion.
Why does anyone wear hats to the side like that? Other than the fact that they are dorks.

If you wear it to the side, it shows you are casual and don't care what people think. Except if you are wearing a trucker cap then you ARE like everyone else who wants to be cool - and it is a TRUCKER CAP, since when are truckers cool? No offense to any truckers, but really. It's just another weird trend.
But on the other hand, I can't knock it too much, I wore jams with Chuck Taylor's for God's sake. |

there's a difference between people who genuinely don't care what people think, and people who try to make it look like they don't care what people think (when in fact, obviously, they really care a lot because they're trying so hard)..
also, i think the hat-to-the-side look, along with wearing your hat backwards (although jocks do that too) sort of goes along with the i'm-a-young-punk vibe.. i mean, i can admit, i used be one in elementary school and high school when i was a skater.. it's kind of a subtle way of giving the finger to adults, just by virtue of looking annoying..

Truckers themselves might not be cool, but I've had this wierd obsession with really decked-out semi trucks for the past couple of years. If I were single, lonely, and totally independent, I would love to be a trucker.
I knew a guy my age who was a trucker, and he was pretty cool. I'd say there's all kinds, not just your run-of-the-mill fat bearded redneck we imagine when we think about truckers.

Maybe it started out as a rebellious thing, but nowadays wearing your hat backwards doesn't really represent anything. I personally just think it looks better, and is more comfortable at work. |

i think people who are oblivious to "cool" and honestly don't give a fuck are cool, by default.
truckers are totally cool.
when i travelled cross country this year i made it a point to try and eat at the full-on truck stops, where all the truckers hang out. and not Denny's or wherever.. i went to a really cool one in TN actually. talk about fish out of water. i felt, oh, just a little out of place..
but everyone was so friendly and hospitable..
i'd be a trucker maybe..
it's a well-known fact that Frank has his own little trucker obsession. i remember after he broke up the Pixies, he used to tell interviewers that he was considering becoming a trucker.. like, with a straight face..
pretty funny.. (maybe he was only half-kidding)

I really like books about travelling. Like "Blue Highways" by William Least-Heat Moon. (Yeah, he's native american.) Or Kerouac, or some of Steinbeck or Faulkner. I think I could make a really cool book about my travels through America, if I were a trucker, except that it's already been done so many times. |

truckers are cool, though they can be pretty annoying when you drive, blocking you and trying not to let you pass them for miles.apart from that ,once i met some truckers on a ferry,we started talking about this and that and i ended up completely drunk cause they insisted to buy more and more drinks.they were cool and had a lot of strange stories to tell plus they didn't make me pay anything.what's more cool than that?imitating their way to dress is of dubious taste since i observed that they prefer worn out jeans that leave the top of their ass uncovered,t-shirts with garage or tyres ads and worn out sneakers.

Truckers cap a little to the side = Acid Wash Jeans
It'll all work itself out in the long run. I've seen enough episodes of "I Love the 80's" to realize "nothing golden ever stays".
On that tip....Do it for Johnny, Man, do it for Johnny. |

Just stick to plain gray T-shirts (with or without pocket) and plain blue jeans. that is what I wear every single day. |

I definetly didn't mean truckers aren't cool, I guess I just think it is funny that they are sort of iconic with everyone wearing these hats that truckers made popular. I am not saying it is good or bad, it's just funny to me. Rock on, truckers! |

Amen, brother. Anyone who worries about looking like they don't care (by a sideways hat or baggy ass jeans or ...) is just really pathetic to me. If you care, you care. If you don't you don't. Don't try to hide it. I have way more respect for people who care and aren't trying to hide it.

They're wannabe truckers, of course. And they're probably making eyes with starfuckers tonight.
I think there has been some sort of idolization of truckers for some time. I mean, what about the whole CB radio obsession some time back?
