As it's coming up to Christmas, I need some ideas for books, CDs, and DVDs to ask for.

The media is full of these top 100 lists these days. I don't have a problem with that, except that the majority of people who vote have very different tastes to me. I'm not going to buy the top 100 albums of all time, if most of the voters are Robbie Williams fans.

So, this forum's already awash with chat about other bands, but what about other media? If you people told me what your favourite books/films were, I could at least assume that as our musical taste is similar, we might have more chance of liking the same books and films.

Lists (even on this board) are pretty pointless. Who actually pays attention to lists other than their own? There was a thread here recently putting your favorite FB albums in order. I put all bogus titles and no one even noticed-- or if they did, they didn't voice it.

You see a list in a magazine, you scroll down it finding stuff you're already familiar with. You read the review and you go to the next thing you already know about. The only opinion you walk away with is whether or not the reviewer is a moron.

you have a point there.i guess people do lists just for the sake of it.i never respect my own "to do" or "to buy" lists but i keep making them anyway..

Lists are fun to make, but not generally that fun to read, except sometimes to compare your tastes with other people's. They can make for better reading material if there's something to back up the person's opinions, though.

And BLT, I noticed your fake titles and thought they were amusing, but didn't think it was worth commenting on.

Ain't nothing ever been more true. I never even put enough thought into my lists for it to be useful.
