Top 5 pointless-wastes-of-time-for-no-reason-other-than-I-can, more like. Anyway...

What do you lot rate as the top5 best soundtracks, more in respect to relevance and appropriateness to the film. I'm talking about the music here, btw, so as cool as the soundtracks are on, say, The Birds or Eraserhead, try to stick to songs etc. Here's mine, in no order...

1) Blues Brothers
2) Big Lebowski
3) The Shining
4) Donnie Darko
5) Good Will Hunting

I could also include 2001, Royal Tenenbaums, O Brother Where Art Thou, Lost Highway, and Romeo & Juliet, so I'm cheating already!

I honestly think that Quentin's soundtracks are amazing. each perfectly fits the mood of the movie.

Four Rooms (even though directed by four different people)
From Dusk Til Dawn (even though directed by R.R.
Pulp Fiction

Grosse Point Blank, good call (featuring as it does Pixies, Violent Femmes and GNR(!))
Fair cop with the Tarantino flicks, I guess I thought they were too obvious - undeniably cool though.

Not just Ramones on Rock and Roll High School though, great Ritchie Valens, Velvet Underground, MC5, Chuck Berry, some Velvets, I think some solo Nico, I don't remember it all but it was just full of really cool music, the Dolls were in there somewhere too, I think.

what Pixies song does Grosse Point Blank feature? The Tarantino soundtracks are obvious but I just couldn't think of many worth mentioning as I only have a few.

Grosse Point Blank has Monkey Gone To Heaven briefly as John Cusack is driving round the town, if my memory serves me correctly. Also, excellent use of Blister In The Sun by VF's

Um, there's always "Fight Club" for the ultimate in new Pixies fans cultivation....it allowed my brother to finally enjoy the Pixies cds I had bought for him years ago - it was ok to like them, as that song on Fight Club was "cool". heheh ;) Thank you Fight Club!!

Day the Earth Stood Still (B. Herrmann)
North by Northwest (B. Herrmann)
8 1/2 (N. Rota)
Star Trek-The Motion Picture (J. Goldsmith)
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (E. Morricone)

There's others too...but...

Speaking of Pixies in film, Wave of Mutilation (surf UK version) appears in Christian Slater flick Pump Up The Volume, and if I'm not mistaken, during the credits of teen flick Empire Records, two characters are discussing the validity and importance of Pixies.

Is that on the movie soundtrack? I know it's on that "Heroes and Villains" CD, which isn't really a soundtrack per se, although, from what I've heard of it, it's really good. The Sugarplastic song from there was largely why I got interested in that band in the first place.

Oh, and while I don't have a Top Five ready, I don't think anyone has mentioned the "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" soundtrack yet.

Tarantino is perhaps my favorite filmmaker, and while I really dig the soundtracks, I have some qualms with the way the soundtracks are put together. With Reservoir Dogs, there just aren't enough songs on that disc for me to feel it was worth paying $14 or $15 for what, 6 or 8 songs, a few of which are shitty remakes of the 70s classics. Okay, i understand that with Reservoir, they had less money and access to publishing rights, and there wasn't a lot of room in the film for music. But I find the dialog excerpts to be a bit annoying, very obtrusive and interferes with the flow of the songs, this is both Pulp and Reservoir soundtracks I'm speaking of, mind you. Okay, the K-BILLY on Reservoir was fun, but other than that, bleh! The soundtrack is supposed to be songs from the film! If we want to hear the dialog, we watch the frickin' movie! We know you're a good with the way characters speak, QT, we know! (I think that's 4 sentences in a row now with exclamations points... I noticed that just now we'll reading back through this, wow, I was on a fuckin' beligerent tangent) Aside from that, I think Kill Bill is his first film that has an underscore, so I'm assuming the sountrack has great deal of instrumental music. That will be nice. I know I'll buy it eventually. I still need to get Jackie Brown. That's probably the best one, too.

I can't believe that no one has mentioned the Kids soundtrack, its fantstic and in my opinion is the best soundtrack ever closely followed by:
wicker man
clockwork orange
twin peaks (tv series soundtrack)
natrual born killers.

Any soundtrack to a film directed by Tarantino or Lynch are also very good.

TarTar, you're gonna be pissed with the Kill Bill soundtrack too. He uses dialogue but worst of all there are like 4-5 tracks at the end that are just 2 second sound effects used in the movie. funk dat! anyone else annoyed with that?

The Wicker Man, what a messed up movie. I don't remember the soundtrack being that great, wasn't it mostly just a score?
