We used to live in a house in Barbourville, KY, that some guy had gotten shot in. There was all sorts of creepy things in that place, like things that we would see. My dad told me one time when he woke up in the middle of the night, to see a woman walking across the room. There was a large double-door balcony adjacent to their room, and the moonlight would come pouring in. Well, he saw this woman pass, and in his half-sleep delerium he thought it was my mom, but when she left he looked next to him and she was asleep right there in bed! Maybe he was just joshin', though, I don't know. He always seemed serious whenever he told it.
I do remember there was a set of red handprints on the wall in me and my brother's room, though, which would not scrub off. And, actually the owner of the house had been murdered there. I'm not prone to believing in ghosts, but there was some wierd stuff seen there... |

Oh I love ghost stories.
we have some farmland just outside the city with the original farmhouse still on it. My brothers swear its haunted and they won't go there at night etc. Anyways, my grandfather in law (he died a few years ago) said when he first bought it the guy that lived there was extremely abusive towards his wife, and that he used to tie her up to this tree right outside the house. There are plenty of trees on that lot and most of them bigger than this particular one but last year that tree and that tree alone was hit by lightning and completely destroyed. |

I hate dreams where you're running and running and can't stop running...like, you run against a wall to stop but you end up running up the wall. Sex dreams are fantastic, unless it's one of those dreams where the girl turns into a coat rack or a door or something like that...then it sucks. I'm so pathetic I dream about masturbating to internet porn sometimes...that's just lame.
As a kid, I'd have a lot of dreams where I'd come into a huge toy collection or something, or I'd be at a store and they'd have the hard to find figures that I had been looking for forever. Then I'd wake up and I wouldn't have the toys. That's the fucking worst! I still have these dreams since I casually collect Simpsons toys (when I have money).
How about dreams about work? I generally hate dreams about work, because in them it's like a mesh of all the jobs I've had put into one. Like, I'm working in a hybrid grocery store / computer store. It sucks! When I first started at the video rental place, I'd have dreams about alphabetizing shit. Just sitting there alphabetizing. How horrible those dreams were.
What about dreams with famous people you like? I've had a number of Frank Black dreams, and years ago, Nirvana/Cobain dreams. I actually had a Nirvana/Cobain dream recently...it was pretty weird.
Last night I had a dream where I was in the game Battlefield 1942 playing the Desert Combat mod, and the Iraqis were really kicking our ass and it was really pissing me off. I remember thinking "I'm never playing this god damn game again." I sometimes like action dreams, where I'm kind of in a game with a gun and shit, other times it's just really scary because I'm afraid of dying. Ooooh man I just love dreams so damn much. Typing about this makes me wish I were sleeping and dreaming right now.

well actually, here are a few I remember from when I was a kid. The first dream I had was a nightmare. I put every kind of liquidy substance known to man (milk, water, gasoline, etc.) into a wading pool in my back yard and when someone jumped in they froze. When someone went to help them they froze. Eventually everyone in the world froze but me and I was scared.
Another nightmare was of my cats conspiring to kill me. I was hiding in a closet and could see them through the slats. They were like 8 feet tall and were talking about murdering me but worst of all, they got my parents in on it too so I had no one to turn to. Even though my parents were in on it I remember going to sleep in their bed anyway after that one. Funny thing about nightmares is they're almost never really scary but the strangest things can scare you in your sleep.
Last one here - my sister and I used to have the same recurring dream but we didn't find out about each others dreams until a few years after we stopped having them. My dream: I stood at the curve of my staircase in blue footy pajamas and flew down the stairs. Her dream: She stood at the very top of the stairs in pink footy pajamas and flew all the way down the stairs and around the corner where my parents were watching tv. then they put her to be.
Like I said we both had this dream repeatedly; when we found out we were very creeped out.
You all might find it interesting that once, when trying to duplicate this dream, I actually fell down my stairs, hit the bookcase at the bottom and it fell on me books an all.

When I read about you and your sister's dreams about floating/flying down the stairs at your paren's house and evrything you described, my heart stopped.
You described the EXACT same dream/rememberance/experience I remember having/dreaming as a child.
The reason I use the / is the fact that when I recalled it, it is so vivid and so detailed that I did not know if it was a dream or it really happened. Then when you said you tried to recreate it and it didn't work, well I did the same thing (and it still didn't work).
You said you were creeped out when realizing this with your sister, well imagine the creep factor experienced by someone who doesn't even know you.
I am crapping you negative. Now, I'm really, really interested in figuring out if this is some kind of phenomenon (or something like a phenomenon as LL cool J would say) or what.
If you want details, I can give them about the dream, right down to the foot pajamas, though mine was at my grandparent's house. Man, it's freaking me out and it has been all week since I read this.
What do you have to say about this? |

Wow, that's pretty messed up, swimmer. What color were your footie-pyjamas? If this is true it just further bolsters my suspicions that somebody out there likes to fuck around with our heads - Eris? Is that you? I dunno if this will freak you out, since I have no way to prove it, but I have a similar story of "beyond coincidence" weirdness: I found out recently that my husband's parents, right before he was conceived, were in separate areas of their home town one day, and each one discovered a pink toy MG car, buried in the dirt, rusty and obviously there for decades, and both came home with the cars in their pockets. They decided that was pretty damn freaky. |

Dreamed last night that there was a huge house with many rooms full of liquid chlorine, on top of a hill. Lots of running on eroding metal catwalks over huge pools of chlorine, trying to evade the owner of the house.... |

Has anyone had their dream frequency drop largely? I used to have dreams about 3x a week on average and now it's been almost two weeks since my last one. I don't know if that's related to me getting even less sleep than usual, but I like dreaming and I haven't in what feels like so long...

I go through cycles of remembering dreams frequently, then nothing for a while. I am of the belief that everyone dreams, but that we don't always remember. I hate it when I go for long periods w/out. You could try some lucid dreaming tricks, or eating certain things before going to sleep, etc. |

Hey Swimmer, that is really weird. I would absolutely love more details if you have them. I'm not sure what to make of that but it IS creepy. I wonder if this is just a common childhood dream; I doubt it cause I'm sure I would have heard similar stories by now. Btw, sorry about all the spelling errors in my post, I'll go back and fix them.
CoF, you are dreaming even though you're not remembering them. I forget the reason but people often go through long periods where they don't remember their dreams. I went through a 5 year period when I couldn't remember anything and then all of a sudden they started becoming really vivid and I was able to remember them again.

Today I had a dream me and my friend kevin broke into a house (why, I do not know). Of course the owners came back and kevin went down to them but I ran. From this point on it makes little sense, I cross a lake with a door, there's some kind of competition involving chickens, Weird Al Yankovich has 6000 chicken bones covering his shed, And then I evntually get back home. I go somewhere, and am being followed by some black car. Then some people and cops come and accuse me of stuff (I felt really guilty even if it wasn't real), and then I realize it's a dream and wake up 5 seconds before my alarm goes off. |

Hmmmm... I almost would prefer that I were not dreaming than dreaming and remembering. Well, I don't know, but I hate when I don't remember dreaming. I've had dreams that I remember dreaming but not really what happened (or only pieces) before, but never a total blank. Well, at least not that I remember. :)
I had a dream once that was so vivid that it got me in trouble. I really thought it had happened, and I went and did something when I was awake(don't remember what the dream was anymore nor what I did, this was a few years back), and got in serious trouble. But I swore that I was told to do it! I don't know that it was a dream for sure, but I know that I remembered being told.

My girlfirend's friend once dreamed that they had been in a fight. Her friend was really pissed at her when she woke up and even after acknowledging that it was a dream her friend was still pissed. The dream was just that powerful.

This dream has stuck with me since college. Probably since I told it to one of my buddies and he thought it was so hysterical that he told all the other guys as well.
I'm at some mall somewhere and I meet this gal and we go to some out-of-the-way spot and start making out. She is wearing a knee length skirt and I go to reach under her skirt and her anatomy is as if she has an elephant trunk as long as the length of her skirt extending from her groin area and at the end of it is her vagina.
I'm cracking up just trying to type this out. I really don't think an interpretation is needed, just plain ol' weird.

Did anyone else used to have dreams where stuff happens that you know wouldn't happen for real, and in your dream it's as though you're trying to rewind and start again and dream it differently? I didn't explain that very well.
I used to have this recurring dream where I was walking along a cobbled street similar to those in York (UK). Then this kind of low trolley would come around the corner with a bigger than lifesize whale on it.
In my dream, I would be thinking "that's crap, whales don't wander around York on big whale-sized trolley things", and I'd try to go back and dream that bit again, but without the whale, but everytime the whale would appear, however hard I tried to dream otherwise.
Buggered if I know what that meant.

I'm having a hard time keeping track of my dreams the last few days - they're all pretty disjunct and screwy, like people making art with lettuce and me being accused of being President Lincoln's lady-in-waiting - wtf? Anyone else have a crazy sick dream they want to share?
That whale on a trolley in York dream is beautiful. As far as recurring dreams that you try to fix each time goes, when I was in my teens I used to have recurring nightmares involving rabid dogs. The last one I had I decided I had had enough and they ended:
The dream starts with me in a late fall forest with mostly 20-40 yr-old trees, no leaves. The Roman Colisseum is behind me, the sky is that color it gets when it is going to snow, grass is brown/yellow and brittle but wet. I am playing some sort of weird flute contraption with a live carved bird on the top (I have a drwing of it somewhere) and a huge raven appears in the sky overhead, carrying a baby on its back. For some reason, maybe to rescue the baby? I have a rifle and I shoot at the raven. The baby falls and becomes a deer, which for some strange reason I shoot at again. It is a bout 20 feet in front of me, behind a tree which divides into two trunks at about 6 ft up. The deer starts to run at me and I shoot again, it turns to a rabid dog just as it jumps through the divide in the tree, and I shoot once more and it's dead. At that point the dream is over and I never saw rabid dogs again.

On the topic of trying to fix dreams, I've sort of had it happen. I'd wake up 'cause I tried manipulating it, and then go back to sleep and have the same dream again, except the way I thought it should've went when I was up for that brief spell.
I had a whole bunch of dreams this weekend! Unfortunately, like apl, they were disjointed and I woke up and went back to sleep meaning that I only remember dreaming but not what I dreamt. :(

I used to be able to talk myself through dreams when I was a kid. I'd repeat over and over "It's only a dream, wake up" if it was scary and try to do impossible shit just for kicks.
One summer I started to sleep without a shirt. I'm really really skinny and never take off my shirt, even when swimming. So I'd dream that all of a sudden I was asleep in my bed and my bed was in my classroom and everyone was staring down at me without a shirt on, then I'd wake up.

The only dream I can remember at the moment is being chased around the top floor of one of those plush double decker coaches by the Chucky doll from Child's Play. Eventually I had to just sit in the front and keep an eye on him while he sat about 2/3 of the way back holding a knife and looking malevolent. Its alright, though, I got my family out.
Oh, and JB, come to North London, we have tons of whales in trolleys.

I'm sure I dream (it's medically proven that everyone dreams right?) but how come I rarely wake up in the morning with any kind of memory of a dream. According to this thread you're all dreamaholics.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it depends which phase of sleep you wake up during. If you wake up right in the middle of your dream, you're more likely to remember it...something like that. I woke up during a deep sleep today and I remember very specifically what I was dreaming about, what was even being said, what it looked like, etc.
