I know a few members of this board are big fans of Pavement, so I decided to post this connection i sort of formed between the two of them.

Both formed their first "real" band by befriending the future lead guitarist. (Frank and Joey/Steve and Spiral Stairs)

Both released 5 albums with a band that critics and fans alike will probably always refer to as one of the greatest of all time.

Both gradually assumed a clear "leadership" over the band over the course of the albums, resulting in the final album being much more akin to a solo album than previous albums were (Trompe Le Monde/Terror Twilight)

Both bands have a couple "known" songs that are generally less-abrassive than their other output (Where is My Mind, Monkey Gone to Heaven, Hear Comes Your Man/Cut Your Hair, Spit on a Stranger)

Both bands faced a handful of critics who claimed the band had lost their spark in the end (this always bothers me)

But launched a solo career with an album of catchy, lighter, but no less off-beat songs than their previous bands' average material (many originally intended for inclusion on a band LP)

Both opted not to play songs by their former band while on their first tour supporting new album material

is Steven's next album going to be a sprawling double album that will go down as an undisputed classic a few years following its release??

Which Pavement album is classed as one of the best of all time??? Ive got Wowee, Brighten the corners, Terror Twilight and another one which I haven't listened to much... Westing (By Musket and Sextant)... which is shite. The three other ones are cool but I wouldn't put them in a best of all time catergory and they don't stand next to anything that the Pixies did.

Slanted and Enchanted and Crooked Rain Crooked Rain are probably Pavements most revered LPs, Slanted and Enchanted is the one that pops up on lots of "best albums of all time" lists. I love Pavement, not as much as Frank, but I love them a lot. Of course, I discovered Pavement before Frank, my musical journey went Sonic Youth-Pavement-then the Pixies. So I have some nostalgia there. I was just saying in a broad sense that Pavement are looked on as one of the greatest bands of the the past decade, they sort of accepted the "king of college rock" crown right after The Pixies disbanded.
