Have you ever encountered an obvious internet personality? Who, if any, do you guys think puts on a show on these boards? It's been my experience that people who take on internet personalities usually take it on in the form of an asshole. The people here seem pretty genuine but I just wanted to know how you feel about such character manipulation.

Yeah, it happens I think. The internet is a lot of people's opportunity to be what they aren't in real life, i.e. really sarcastic/assholey, or really elitist and hip, ext. stuff like that. Who knows maybe a few assholes out there have nice internet personaities |

exactly. I wonder how many people's personalities change without even realizing it or who gets "typecast." I've read posts here and thought people were shmucks but avoided making any comment because I really didn't know the history of the argument. I'll often discover later that they actually seem like pretty good people.

My "outgoing" personality that I have online is buried within my real self; in real life, you don't really see it unless you really get to know me and I'm really comfortable with you. Otherwise I'm generally shy. I'm different things to different people. Obviously some people who act like a psychotic asshole online are deeply disturbed in real life but don't tend to show it publicly as much. That's my theory, at least.

Most of the people i've met in 'real life' after conversing with them for a while online tell me i'm pretty much what they thought / the way i present myself.
You're not likely to see anything from me on here that you would find in person. |

Someone recently told me that I'm way more outgoing on aim than in real life. I'm really shocking on aim, like sexually and such. I aim for the extreme to scare of the weaker potential friends. I'm also pretty shy but outgoing once I feel comfortable with people. I hate social gatherings, refuse to go to parties and have an intense fear of public speaking which I'm gradually overcoming.
I'd love to meet you floop, you cutey patooty. grrr. j/k there goes my idiocy.

I don't really think I have much of a "personality" on this forum. But, although I am pretty shy in real life, that facade belies an odd, odd person underneath. Internet anonymity has alot to do with it. Although I hope nobody on here considers me a total asshole (Ebb nonwithstanding, I would expect that from him now) the underlying mentality seems to be that its the internet and its not like you have to deal with these people unless you want to. Just imagine if we all worked at the same place, and for some reason all posted on this forum? If we all had to deal with one another at work the next day? Do you think the content of the posts would change drastically? |

glacial, I doubt anyone considers you an asshole. Like I've said before, I dig your style. I think people are extreme to accentuate their personality, otherwise it's difficult to stand out. But you have good tasta and I usually agree with everything you say. Sometimes I think it just takes time to establish yourself. I, on the other hand, could go down in msg board history as the most insignificant potser ever . . . that is, of course, if they could remember me.

ha ha..
no, unlike my cute kitten, i have no desire to be inside boxers.. my cute comment was only in reference to swimmer, who thinks i try too hard to be "cute" or something..
for me, the internet is the internet. you can only take it so seriously. i do think that my sense of humor and personality, if i have one, on the internet is about the same as real life. i like to joke around and i like absurd stuff. so sue me.

In real life, I'm a psycho killer, qu' est-ce que c'est?
No different I guess. I'm a real honest-to-goodness pseudo-intellectual. ;)

I guess I'm pretty similar on the Internet as in person, but I'm generally more talkative. I'm really pretty shy in both situations, but I'm more likely to talk to strangers, or even people I know, online. It just makes me less nervous, you know? In person, I'm tense and nervous and I can't relax. And I can't sleep, 'cause my bed's on fire.

I guess I'm pretty much the same online as in real life. At least the people I met over the summer didn't seem that surprised at how I was in person. I do have to say that the internet has somewhat emboldened me. I've never been big on putting up with other people's bullshit in the first place, but since being online for that last few years, I've sharpened my wit a bit when having to deal with flamers and lamers on my own forums etc. So now I tend to take less crap in real life. Instead of sitting idly by and muttering, I'm more apt to tell someone to their face that they're being a mondo asshole. *sniff* The internet gave me balls! :-p

Did not miss a run, trust me on that one. talking heads 77 was the first album i ever really liked. anyways, on one board i was on i took on the role of psychotic asshole. it's strangely satisfying. generally though i guess i just type what i feel like typing, and that's that. |

Half the time I think I am invisible on this site, there was a topic about that. I got about 10 responces out of nearly 2500 members.
Most of the time I feel like a moron because everyone here is so cool, however, really few ackowledge me, or choose to ignore me which makes me think I am a peice of shit idiot jerk. I don't like people who are too school for school in real life and on this site.
My heart was racing as I read FB's reply to my post @ the King's Court.
I actually have developed internet affection for this site and certain people.
I tell all the people in my life that I like about how awesome Fb.net is, however, it is strange to talk about a forum, it's like a television show you saw last week. This site is so unique and well done. I fucking love it. I would be sad if went away or I was banned. I mean, all you guys and gals who make this possible have done a fucking killer job. I am complimenting, not flattering. I can't put into words my gratitude for you.
Sometimes I feel like shit because I didn't like what I posted, or an idiot for knowing everything.
But in real life, like at work, everyone loves me. And all my friends love me. I am very easy to get along with, and I know how to get along with people I don't even like so much too. I have always got along with many different types of people. I am not judgemental, I hate judgemental people. I hope they crash their SUV's and Lexus' (Lexi). I've always been someone who has crossed circles, rarely a line. I shall leave that last statement esoteric.
I Love this site, the loyalists, and the wit that drizzles off this site like molten lava orange jello with red long stemmed roses in it.
I just want people to like me.

Same here really, I'm pretty much myself here on the forum, although I guess people who use a forum / internet chat room portray themselves as how they would like to be to a certain extent IMO.
I guess except for the fact that I not a mad raving clopser I am not that much different (unless I fly into a blind rage whilst playing Pro Evolution 2).

LBF, thanks for that touching post. I feel just the same. I'm always very insignificant and usually hate all my posts too. I asked FB what shoes he was wearing at my concert and he just ignored me. Ignored me!! It was a legitimate question!
:)
Anyway, this board is great. I was just wondering when/if it'll come to an end. Many Boards do and that would be terrible. So count'em LBF, that's 3 peeps whos book you're A-ok in.

I'm gonna break 500 posts tonight, before I go to bed, so you'll have to excuse my ramblings.
What do you drive? I drive my wife's Dodge Neon. Pretty girly, huh? At least she's not the kind of person who puts frilly girly stuff all over the car; I guess for a Neon it's pretty uni-sex. (I've heard people say Neons are a girl's car.) |

I think people online who always acts like an asshole are the ones who always get beat up by bullies in real life. They cant express their angst in real life so they intend to release it on the internet by showing to people online that theyre tough guys.. ______________________________________ Just because girls have vaginas it doesnt mean that girls can rule this world. |

Aah, fuck it. I was trying to figure out something witty for my 500th, but no one seems to be on anyway. You'd think SOMEONE would be, since people post from all over the world.
Sorry this has nothing to do with internet personality.
