LBF, yes.
the same way you can hear them in every single song that FB has written. It's called a style and a voice.
If you're talented and you try real hard hopefully you develop one of your own that is unique to you. A lot of artist strive to achieve this. Frank has. |

LBF - listen to the man, he speaks the truth, if you read every reply the swimmer has written, you will recognise a particular style throughout.
The only thing I disagree with is the notion that talent and hard work are prerequisites - the swimmer manages without, so I'm sure the rest of us can. |

Hey jb, tell us when you start making sense. Who said anything about prerequisites besides you?
Oh, yeah, nobody.
That's what I thought. When you have a valid argument we'll care, ok. |

i like it: the old 'limey vs.yank' thing -maybe you guys could square of in a network gaming chllenge to see who's the more adept smartass -or better yet that show BANZAI on fox (could be off the air for all i know -no T.V. lately) could feature a text messaging showdown af smartassizms to be voted on by the audience. HAR! that could be fun....
strange that you would notice |

By the way, is the word Yank offensive to many Americans?? I have called many an American friend a Septic Tank, a Yank etc etc... obviously not in a derogartory way, but every now and again it has bitten me on the arse as people have got pissed off with me. I thought that it was like calling an Australian an Aussie (like they call us Pommes), or like the Americans calling the Brits 'Limeys.' I don't get offended by being referred to as a Limey, or Pomme as long as it is not used as a slur against me, so why is it that some Americans object to being called a Yank??
LBF - In answer to your question about EIN and TLM I haven't noticed any link, although I'll have a listen out for it.

Dude, you're not a nice person. I really want to insult you but I am not like that. This is serious question.
To continue your argument, everything he wrote sounds the same. Goddamn I want to cuss you.
The Verses of EIN specifi-fucking-ly remind of some song from TLM. I'm sorry this is proposterous to your superior taste in music, you fuck-head :) sorry, self-control only goes so far.

Excuse the fuck out of for asking, you asshole. I thought this was a forum to discuss things. My bad. You fucking arrogant prick.

I didn't really know any non-Americans called us that. But... I grew up in the Northeast (Maryland) and when I moved to North Carolina (which is farther South), a few people called me a Yankee because I was from the North. I live in a redneck area, but there are a few of my kind here so I'm not outnumbered.

This is exactly why I think Europeans are generally smarter than Americans. I wish I were European. Just the accent makes them sound smarter.

Well I think that the whole Hermosa thing has to do with a place that Frank is familiar with Hermosa Beach in California as far as the verses being alike it's only that I think really. Everything is New has two stories in it both being about different music legends the first is about Chesney "Chet" Baker and his death from falling out a window in Holland, the fact that he was from California and played around Hermosa is where the reference in that verse comes from the second verse is about Hiram "Hank" Williams and Johnny Horton(another topic brought up often in Frank Black songs) and the fact that they both played shows at the Skyline Ballroom before they died both on the road Hank of heart failure and Johnny Horton in an automobile accident. Trompe Le Monde I've never really examined very closely so I can't say much about it but there's what I can help you with.

i don't think yank or limey is necessarily derogatory -they seem to be words that rely on usage or emphasis to sway the meaning from playful to nasty. i always thought johnny horton was from that dr. seuss story: horton hears a who. but hey, i'm a yank so i'm not that quick... seriously i wouldn't be offended at being called a yank. it seems i've always had a friend from england or ireland my whole life and not once can i remember anything but people trying to learn the others ways. i haven't even noticed or not if there is a tally of members somewhere on this site -i would guess that U.K. members outweigh in numbers the rest of us here. just a guess based on the history of rock music and the way fan based organizing has gone down before. but FB's popularity in canada has surprised me so anything could be the case as far as i know. i couldn't help but notice how jbstevens jumped on swimmer and assumed he must have dissed him before for some reason...and then i noticed in another place he(swimmer) is oozing angst all over someone and now i realize that it's just one of those things - being a wisenheimer is a dirty job but someones got to do it i suppose. mr. swimmer is the man for the job.
