Wait 'til you hear Derek's cover of Where Is My Mind on the Pixies tribute coming up. About 20x better.

i saw an advert for their new album the other day and it was playing over. it was a studio version of it. its not pretty. its played one step higher than the original. i think its a b side or something, because its not on the album as far as i know.

There's a papa roach cover!!? where'd it come from? man I had forgot all about that terrible band until yesterday. my neighbor plays the shittiest music at full volume but what's worse is he'll only play half a song before showcasing the rest of his spectacular music collection so my roomate and I have a zillion shiyty songs running through our heads all day.

Hey count yourself lucky scutor, my neighbours argue in their best screaming voice until around 2am when she throws him out and he tries to kick the door down. This happens on average about 3 or 4 nights a week. One day I'm gonna record one on my MD and use it as background ambience on a song.

Big name bands generally don't do good covers of pixies songs, weezers take on velouria wasn't exactly something to write home about either

Yeah, but the Weezer cover wasn't painful like Papa Roach's ill-advised cover. Actually, I thought Weezer did a competent job, one of the few keepers off that first tribute album.
Anybody know who did Caribou on that CD? They did a decent version, if I remember right... |

my workmate here was saying one day that he had a papa roach CD and that he thought it was pretty good, normally avoiding the 'alternative' radio up til then i was being diplomatic and playing that station and had heard the name papa roach, well someone had taken his papa roach CD and that's what brought it up. i knew the name but no song to go with. so for a while the running joke was that whatever scream/angst/whiny song would come on i would say: 'is this papa roach?' -i couldn't tell ya if i ever nailed it or not. related modern alternative/angst deal is that signature jungle/monkey sound that guy from one of those groups -something like 'disconnected' or whatever -he goes: 'ooh-ahahahaha' -frank does a mini version on the live version of Jane the queen of love from the nadine single #1.

Weezer cover rocks hard. It was the first 'good' cover version that came to mind when Frank was asked about this topic. |

I saw them in Cardiff a few months ago. Knew precious little about their music and was about to walk out when Molko made an announcement. "If it wasn't for this band, Placebo would never have happened. We're going to do a Pixies song."

Hayden's (that lo-fi singer/songwriter) "Gouge Away" must be the most horrible Pixies cover... |

I used to love placebo when i was like 12/13. I saw them live doping the where is my mind cover. I didnt think it was that bad actually. I usually hate people doing covers of my fav bands...but i was pleasently surprised. WYIN is a great album
I never knew about papa roach cover! How fucking disgusting!
Nada Surf could be good though, would love to hear that.

I didnt think the papa ro cover was all that bad, well it was, but if they had gotten the lyrics right and didnt rip through the song as tho the world was about to end it would have been pretty good. |

in fact, I think the fb&c live version of velouria with the slide guitar easily surpasses the pixies version. |
