Anybody ever see that crazy documentary about the band "Friends Forever"? Very good road-trip/home movie documentary of a band and its shows. Weird people, that band. There's a thought.
"I can't stand all this sex on the television. I mean, I keep falling off!" "I partied with the Cult of Frank / Bob ate all the dip"
STILL FOGGED -SNAKE GONE -SPELLING AND GRAMMAR STILL SHITTY ...alright great footage must exist, forget i even mentioned the idea of some real sight and sound -maybe that is why i want to see a FILM MADE so badly is that when i stand in an audience and see a good show like the fb%C put on -or sometimes you see the most absurd thing in real life and at that moment you wish you had a camera -NOT JUST A CAMERA but a real camera that actually captures the spores floating in reality at that moment (not the fuzz you see on most video playback)-i'm sorry but i want wide screen technicolor blazing as @#$%^ reality -no HDTV, bestbuy crap or mall theatre -i want a freaking imax on the moon projecting frank black and the catholics playing '21 reasons' with a seguey into 'this old heartache' -get it? and no i haven't seen the 'friends forever' documentary but i plan to -buncha freakazoid schleps cruisin around doin' guerilla style concerts in a VW van with a fog machine -my kind of guys.. ..they get a freakin' documentary made about them but the catholics? ...naaaahh!

Ok, I see that official video's are a problem. Frank made video's in Europe for:4ad, Sony/Dragnet and Play it again Sam (although I'm not even sure there was a video for All my Ghosts and/or Dog Gone). Frank mentioned a low budget video for Robert Onion, but I don't know if that's even licensed by Cooking Vinyl or What are records? (Dog in the Sand-era), maybe Frank is the only one with a copy.
Given the fact that official video's are going to be a problem (and let's be reasonable, the 4ad ones are his best video's, so if Jo wants to cooperate maybe she can pull things off), I would say: boohoo
I think a DVD with live stuff, a catholics bbq, frank visiting Scott to congratulate him with his new born child, catholics in the studio, bloopers in the studio and that sort of stuff would be better than some video's (I find the Men in Black video not really essential for a fan, but then again maybe because it's a bad video makes it even more intresting, HELP!).
So people keep on signing this...
Jo tell us what you think

I don't even want to go near the US record company's: Elektra, What are Records? For some odd reason I think those record company's are not going to help us. Why would What are Records help us? They have only did one album and apparently they had enough of FB after that or vice versa..

So people keep on signing this...
just to be clear here, its not something I'd be involved with - so I'm not sure how much influence I'd have (very very little I'd think)... I'm only talking from past experience with videos like the Kristin Hersh/Throwing Muses one we did, where we could only use the ones we had the rights to, on a worldwide scale - ones like Your Ghost and the US version of Bright Yellow Gun weren't owned by 4ad worldwide. We could have licensed them in, however, it would have added to the overall costs, which are fairly high on their own...
4ad on its own doesn't have enough footage to do a Frank DVD, however there are plans sometime in the future to compile a DVD Box Set of all the 4ad videos that existed ever... so I'd think those videos would be included then...
mind, give it a couple more years and 4ad should have worldwide rights back on both FB albums, I would think? (I have no idea)... it'd be nice to see them repackaged with the relevant videos included... (this is all off the top of my head here), but who knows.... |

Jo, this sucks....
but I highly appreciate your replies on this topic.
I guess we should forget about the official videos. Which is not a very big deal, me thinks, I'm more into live stuff and studio footage.
but are you sure, you don't have any influence on this? And has 4ad licensed stuff before to other record company's?

4ad license stuff all the time - but it wouldn't only be 4ad - if say, (and we're talking hypothetically here) SpinArt wanted to do a Frank DVD of everything, they wouldn't be approaching 4ad for rights, it would be Elektra. Who I'm sure wouldn't come cheap... If (hypothetically) Cooking Vinyl wanted to do a DVD for everywhere except the US, then they would probably only need to approach 4ad. I'm not sure anyone else owns the videos.
its a complicated thing to even try explain...!!
and no, I have no influence. Nobody from SpinArt or Cooking Vinyl would approach me for this, it would go straight to our Business Affairs dept at Beggars - if it was ever gonna happen |

I could see it happening sometime in the future, I think everyone will have a retrospective DVD one day, however, its always difficult when you don't own the rights... take the new Guided By Voices DVD - that only has the Glad Girls video (which was on TVT, not Matador), and I swear there was one for Teenage FBI... no idea why it isn't there, maybe the band hate it, but I thought it existed...
one feature on the GBV one I could see FB doing is the different angles at a live show option - there's just the one track, but I'd never seen it before (I don't have many live DVD's) and I was changing my angles every 10 seconds - which was fantastic! |

I never heard of a teenage fbi video though jo, the glad girls one was on their website and stuff during their TVT period and I guess you can still acces it there but Teenage FBI, I don't know
But for the rest of your post:
I couldn't agree more

DVD is already overdue. I'm not interested in seeing any cheap crap promo video's. Only live performances and live studio footage is good enough for a FB fan. No celebrity endorsment interviews are required. I find it really painful watching these asslicking interviews. Word from the Man himself is all that is we need...
What am I talking about I've waited so long that I would gladly buy any DVD that mentioned Frank/Pixies even if it was only a scratch and sniff panel on a DVD box....
Does anyone know what this would smell like?
