I don't know, I only know that I have the light blue one and it was bought in FNAC Brussels for me. The end.

I have the light blue. But I have seen the other as well, it was a double CD with those 4 tracks on. You know the ones. |

Wait, all of you have the one on the top? I have the bottom one and have never seen the one on top, even online.
But you guys are all from Europe so that might explain something. And the one on the bottom I got was not the double CD. Just the regular one.

The dark blue one with the bold letters was the one I got when American released it in the US in '96.

i've never seen the light blue one,but i have both the single and double versions and they are dark blue.the double version has a hole in the jewel case that means ,as they told me at the store, that it was out of print and that the copies remained in stock where sold at cost(i paid the double one 2$).in fact cor was pretty difficult to find in the past but now new copies can be found. ps:the single version had a cor sticker inside

Calling them the dark blue and light blue ones is probably a mistake. I think the font is the main difference. That COR cover (bottom one) seems much darker than mine so it's probably just the particular image that makes it look dark. I have the one on the bottom but the color of it seems more accurately portrayed by the light blue color of the top one.
Perhaps the colors are slightly different because even some of the stars are different, but I doubt it's as big of a difference as the two pictures make it.

Yeah, I think Derek's right. I have the 'dark blue' one and it's about the same shade as the light blue one. That said, my guess is the light blue is European and dark is North American. I've never seen the light one before.

The stars are in different places too....in the background.
Best way to differentiate might be to refer to the 'o' in 'of'..one has a pip in it, the other doesn't. I have the pip-free version. |

also, one of the 'rays' at the bottom has an eye looking in a different direction....and ahh it's a european/north american thing then....so which one do we prefer? i like the top one, because of the ray's dodgy eye.

yeh the top's font is better. the bottom one looks kind of star trek-y. i have nothing against star trek or some of its' *obsessive* spandex wearing fans mind.

I've asked this before in an album art thread
But no one seemed to know what I was talking about I should have given pictures instead, thanks misleadtheworld
Now here's my theory:
Jean Black made the cover art for COR on her computer, probably with Microsoft paint (I read it somewhere on this forum, I guess it's even a fact). When American Records got the artwork from Frank (or Ken or whoever), they liked it (or didn't but Frank insisted it was used) but wanted to jazz it upp al little bit, because we all know American Records was a bit of a commercial recordcompany, they wanted to have a proper cover.
When Cooking Vinyl (because only the European ones seem to have it) got the rights to release it they got the original artwork from Frank (or ken or whoever) and since they are a alternative recordcompany they didn't have any problems with it.
OR
American Records are so half-assed they had no problem to give the album away, but the tuned upp artwork was theirs. They said, you're not gonna use our artwork, we made that, you're gonna pay for it. Frank suggested to Cooking Vinyl, well why don't you use the old version of the cover, Jean made it and it's still on her computer. Cooking Vinyl had no problem with it and used it as the artwork.
So there you go now you know exactly how it happened and why
Ohh no, you don't
It was just a theory

Did you notice that the font used on the bottom copy is the same font used by the company Franklin, who makes sports equipment? I noticed this at some point.

hmm, I dunno about that... this is the logo they have on their website. They might not use the same font always though.

Does anyone know the name of the Surfer Rosa font, as in the one used for the song titles?

I think they must have changed the font slightly Derek, because it was like, a dead ringer at one point.
