Useyourname's topic with Dr. Katz got me to thinking about cartoons. I'm a big fan and try to collect as many of my favorite, usually off air cartoons as I can. I just wanted to see if there were any other cartoon fans here and what you liked.
I'm still desperately seeking tapes of Fantastic Max, I believe it's a Hannah Barbara show. A baby travels space with his talking pull-string alien toy.
I have all of the old Legend of Zelda eps on tape. Made 2 VCD's of Count Duckula DVD rips. I desperately want the DVD's but they're region 2 only. Incidentally, I recently heard that Playstation 2's are region free, anyone know if that's true? I'll probably have to start another topic to find out if no one bothers with this.
Anyone ever see Filmation's Ghostbusters? I love it and have a few eps on tape. Of course Duckman! So what are some other fave toons? |

Old b&w Popeye from the '30s and '40s are some of my faves-- great animation (especially the 3D looking backgrounds) and the BEST voices. I grew up watching these and they still kill me. Also-- the old Porky Pig films, especially the early ones when he was fatter. |

The old popeyes are hysterical. Invader Zim is amazing and too short lived. How could I have forgot the Roadrunner and Coyote?

Bugs Bunny is still the best in my book. Pepe LaPew, Daffy Duck, almost anything Chuck Jones worked on.
Also, the Pink Panther was cool. |

Hey realmeanmotorscutor,
When you say Filmation's "Ghostbusters" do you mean the wierd-ass cartoon where there were different characters than the movie versions? That is, no Peter, Ray, Egon or Winston..? Cause I recall that show, and no one else seems to. Maybe that's why they called the movie versions the "Real" Ghostbusters. I remember they would only fight the same few ghosts over and over, quite unlike their movie counterparts, who would fight a different one in each episode.
As to favorite cartoons, probably right now the Simpsons, (of course) SeaLab 2021, Aquateen Hunger Squad, and The Family Guy. In the past, I've liked Eek the Cat, CatDog, and Animaniacs. (Oh yeah, some episodes of Batman: the Animated Series were awesome.) If you wanna go waaaaay back, I used to watch M.A.S.K., Masters of the Universe, ThunderCats, SilverHawks, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, Turbo Teens, Laser Tag, all the Hanna-Barbera cartoons, all the United Artists cartoons, (Pink Panther, the Inspector, etc.) Disney series, like DuckTails, TailSpin, Rescue Rangers, old Warner Brothers Bugs and Daffy, and a whole shitload of others. Don't watch too much TV anymore, but if I did happen to catch any of those on I'd zone out in front of the TV automatically. I love cartoons.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. Douglas Adams |

Of course, Space Ghost Coast to Coast reigns supreme in my universe, where or where have you gone?
"Ya know, love is a happy time, all throughout the universe. It's when the male part of the species goes to the female part of the species and says, "You wanna go on a date?" And then she says, "Well, yes, I'd like to go on a date." If you're lucky! Then they go to a restraunt, and she orders something called a salad. And he gets a big piece of beef, that he eats. And that, to me, ladies and gentlemen, is love. Kinda makes you cry." -Brak

To further illustrate my dorkiness, Dean, I must point out that Masters of the Universe is actually He-Man. I think it might've been called "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe." M.A.S.K. I also mentioned. Both classic shows. I won't say great, because when I do catch them in syndication the animation and the voices are terrible, but I love them anyway.
There sure has been alot of alleged homoerotic messages in He-Man "uncovered" in the last few years. Of course, it seems that way with almost everything now. The Teletubbies being gay, Bert and Ernie's living together implying homosexuality, etc. It aggravates me that people attempt to portray almost ANY childhood TV show as being made by a bunch of pedophiles. I wonder if any of the pupeteers on Sesame Street actually contemplated the sexual orientation of Bert and Ernie. Ridiculous. |

Glacial, you know I never read your posts... :)
Actually, I saw it addressed to realmean whilst skimming and did make the mistake of skipping over it. I bow my head in shame, good sir.
Also, yes, Thundercats- HO! Nobody I know has ever heard of them aside from the cousin I used to watch it with when I was younger.

I remember when that show was on, but I never watched it. I don't think it was associated at all with the Ghostbusters movie, which is why the cartoon based on the movie was called "The REAL Ghostbusters." What puzzles me is why the other cartoon was allowed to use that name in the first place. Wasn't it trademarked or something?

I never actually watched it, but I've heard that it was really drugged-out. There was a great parody of it on Mr. Show.

I remember it. I don't think I watched it much. Was it part of the Banana Splits or produced by the same people?
Speed Racer had a revival on MTV in the mid 80s so we don't have to be too old to remember that. |

I love the Thundercats. I have a t-shirt with the lion emblem and a sticker of the same thing on the bumper of my truck (which I call Speedy Marie).
Glacial, yeah Filmation's Ghostbusters is entirely different from The Real Ghostbusters. Filmation's has an Ape with a backpack. I believe they were sued by the makers of The Real Ghostbusters and had to go off the air. Somhow though they managed to produce a few official VHS tapes which I have. http://www.toyarchive.com/Filmation/Filmation.html
You guys have excellent taste. Space Ghost! Does anyone remember that cartoon that aired with Nintendo Power. The show was a relay-race based show where contestants would run around and try to stick as many Nintendo games to their velcro jackets as possible. Afterward they would show a cartoon with a basketball player, the hero from the game Iron Sword and Wizards and warriors, and a little tomato looking thing with green hair called Quark. What was that called!?

Can't go wrong with Space Ghost, ATHF, The Brak Show and Sealab. I'm surprised no one mentioned Futurama, I love that show. I think I'm gonna watch some Futurama and Family Guy now actually. And the Clerks cartoon wasn't half bad if anyone got a chance to see it.

I bet no one here remembers "Poochie." It's about a talking pink dog and her android companion. As far as I know there's only one episode where they go to Cairo to save an archeologist's son.

I have a little plastic pink robo dog that has the name the Poochie on it. Coincidence? I dunno, it's just some thing in my car but now you have me wondering. It also had a purple bone that made it eyes glow.
