one word, three syllables – un-fuckin-real i won’t offer a set list as my memory is bollox but it seems pretty similar to the previous concerts but in a different order. what came through most was how much the band and the crowd were up for it, with one bearded jesus-lookalike kicking off the pogoing. fb@tc went for it hard and really seemed to enjoy it. i don’t know the size of the other venues on the tour but the old stanley theatre had about 350-400 in, perfect size. there was the occasional feedback probs but no one noticed, and it was good to see that loads seemed to know all of his new stuff. aside from the obvious and the band introduction, frank was a man of few words (actually, none), which i didn’t mind as he probably realises any silence will be pierced by a shout for a pixies song. fortunately there was little of that last night and my abiding memory is how easy he makes it look. I saw the pixies in may 89 but as i can’t really recall a lot of last night, i’ve no chance of 14 years ago. but the big man covers the full range with what looks like no effort.
ps i took my 4-month pregnant girlfriend whose cd collection stretches to whitney houston and robbie williams. even she was up for it by the end, though i don’t know if that’s a good sign.
9/10 for me.

I've been on the road since the Liverpool show and haven't had the time to post regarding it until today. It kicked ass. First let me say, it is so great to hit a show where you don't have to take out a mortgage to buy a beer. Beers only cost $1.35 at this show(it was Carling but hey...)whereas I'm used to paying at least $4 (at a club) to $8 (at an arena) in the US at any show. Second, it's nice to go to a show that starts on time and doesn't leave me standing around for two+ hours waiting for the band to take the stage (also unheard of in the US).
The setlist was as follows:
cactus massif central all my ghosts the snake i want rock no roll (my friend got this on digital video, will post when I get it from her) nadine caribou how you went so far manitoba i need peace new house of the pope jane queen of love everything is new bullett california bound whiskey in your shoes when will happiness find me again headache abstract plane horrible day robert the onion ---------------- farewell bend velouria ???? new song
My two friends who had never hear Frank before are now devoted fans. |
