Listening to Monkey Gone to Heaven, I can't help but notice that on the verses, it's sort of the first instance of Charles singing like Frank Black rather than Black Francis. Does anyone else agree?
Also..someone mentioned a crazy version of Monkey Gone to Heaven on this tour...could you elaborate?? |

i think it's just dave playing the petal steel while frank sings. i wouldn't know first-hand, though, since i'm NOT 21.

I cannot recall that MGTH was 'crazy' at the Chicago show, and they played it both nights, I can't even remember if Dave was on pedal steel for this. What was kind of crazy was that for various reasons during the shows, he couldn't get The Swimmer right, and ditched it both nights. But then during the encore of the second show, they start Nimrod's Son, and then suddenly and unexpectedly go into The Swimmer! They finished with Nimrod's Son, somehow tying them together in an amazing feat of musical greatness!
Ok, so that's totally not what you were looking for, but it's interesting nonetheless.

on the dog in the sand tour, dave was on pedal steel for Monkeys gone to heaven. Now, it sounds more FB than Pixies. pretty cool...
