Could someone please explain to me how the system of symbols and words that appear under a user name works. Its probably been explained elsewhere on the sight, but I just haven't had the time or effort to look for it. Thanks.

| Firstly, this has been discussed before in the thread topic called "Little Stars and Avatars". Secondly, you put it in the wrong forum (although I always thought the aforementioned topic should have been in the website disscusion forum, but as Mr. Noisy says, no one will ever move anything from general to non-general). Go to the general chat and look and find the thread topic; it should probably be on page two or three. Or do a search. Afterward, delete the topic or wait for it to be locked. |

Sorry about that, my mistake. Thanks for the help. I'm still pretty new here, so I don't know how to delete the topic. I guess then I will just have to wait for it to be "locked" whatever that means.

Hey there Sir Rockabye,
You seem like a nice enough fellow. I wondered about the stars and names underneath. I actually started the "Little Stars and Avatars" topic. When you get 50 posts, you go from being a "FB Fan" to Cult of Ray. Then, at 100, you get "Dog in the Sand." I think it doesn't change again until 500 posts, then 1000, and at some point I guess you may get to choose your own little avatar. (I don't know if that's reserved for forum administrators or not.)
When a thread is locked, it simply means no one is able to post on it any more. They normally do this when a topic is excessively repetitive, or if it's a "sticky" like a poll or something, or a notification about the forum itself. Normally, like stated above, they will move non FB topic material to the general chat section, I have had this happen to me once. Oh yeah, and the stars recently changed to little kitty heads to reflect our newfound happiness and fufillment of life that is Show Me Your Tears.
Oh yeah, one more thing, there are little icons at the top of each box when you post a message. Among them are icons for editing messages, sometimes you have to type in your pass word to access that, but that's not a big deal. There is also an option to delete your post too, in the same little row of icons.

Thanks, glacial, that about sums up everything. I'm not going to bother locking or deleting this nor even moving it (thanks, Dave). Seems we have a lot of new members lately, so it doesn't hurt for them to see this again.

Hey Dave Noisy, I know we have a FAQ about Frank himself here, how about a FAQ about the forum itself with questions like these answered. With all due respect to Ice Cream (who was a bit authoritarian, I must admit), a newbie isn't going to know that the thread to look for is "Little Stars and Avatars" to get the info he's looking for.

You're perfectly right Veronica.. Sarah?? Would you wanna collect some of the info in that post and stick it in the FAQ.. Stuff like 'active topics' should be in there..and recommend folks add a [ br] to their sig lines (until i tinker with the code at least..)
