Yeah, but i would sure like to put my hands on his copy of Newcastle May 1989 bootleg...And if i'm not wrong underneath that one there aren't any other Pixies albums.

i thought pretty much everyone on the documentary was kinda dorky. none of them really knew what they were talking about.....that's what i feel anyways. i guess the pixies knew what they were saying though.

That guy's a sorta comedian, very tongue-in-cheek and deliberately quite dorky. You didn't really get it. He interviewed Frank about his record collection, at Frank's house...

| I thought that David Bowie and Thom Yorke had a great grasp of what the Pixies were about...what was it that Bowie said about BF's lyrics? "Ability to explore the affinities of a subject"? i can't remember, it made a lot of sense at the time though. |

You don't really get it. This post is very 'tongue-in-cheek'...but no need for concern, no one will be visiting him at his house to slap him with a wet towel.....but be warned; people who have used the term, 'tongue-in-cheek' have been known to get slapped around a little bit. |

I thought that some of the comments made on the documentry were pretty good. One guy, can't remember his name now (some guy from the British music press) said that after Doolittle things started going downhill and the fire seemed to have lost it's rage. Then he went onto say that Bossanova and Trompe were great albums but not so good when compared to the first two. I don't agree with his opinion, but at least he isn't one of these twats who say that Bossanova and Trompe are shite.
Who's the man that won't cop out when there's danger all about? |

I agree.
I really don't see why anyone would think Tromp or Nova are bad. Fair enough if you'd personally prefer the psychopathic frantic nature of the first 2 albums, but that doesn't make the last 2 anything close to bad. The quality didn't even dip. They're just different, a bit of a change in direction. While Doolittle is my favourite Pixies record, I wouldn't have wanted them to replicate that style for another two albums. Variety is good! |

The documentary was played on Trio in August (I TiVo'd it). It originally aired in the UK. If you have satellite, keep an eye out. They may replay it again. If not you gotta wait for the DVD. |

Frank looks like he is on a summer vacation.
The person I found most annoying in the documentary is Thom Yorke. Everytime they show him he is bent over or contorted in some way, holding his head in his hands. Sit up, man! |

I thought Frank looks like he's just got out of bed, in his pj's.
Anyway is there anywhere (except the impending DVD) where I can get myself a copy of Gouge? I've seen excerpts which make me want to see it even more.

The only dork in that documentary is the guy who says "it's basic pop music at the root, to me there's no difference between the Pixies and Abba"
What a hideously journo thing to say. I want to slap him every time. Course there's a fucking difference, you cretin!

I started a thread ages ago about the Frank Black vinyl justice. I fucking loved the Adam and Joe show, seriously. The one where they do a review of motorway service station was class, and the the toy movies were nothing short of genius. If theres two things I'd really like to see before I RIP it's that Frank interview and 'Los Angeles' appearing on Beavis and Butthead. I think someone said they had a tape of that, any chance they could FTP it? Going back to A and J why don't they repeat it on E4, I mean shock video is funny and all but it's a poor substitute. Won't E4 have the series in there archives or something? Anyone want to start a petition with me or something?

I haven't seen the documentary, so I don't know the context in which this was said, but I can sort of see where he was coming from. There's certainly a difference, as there is a difference between ANY two bands. The Pixies and ABBA ARE both essentially basic pop music, though.
And I don't know what "journo" is supposed to mean.
