if your a big enuff fan, ur gonna buy yhe album regardless of whether sum fool who only listens to one song and doesnt like it gives it 3/5, 1/10 or 4000%

surely some people share my opinion that reviews are only there for people who cant make up their own minds?

well it helps to hear what other people have to say about an album, if you're not sure about it, especially if you know the tastes of the reviewer. they cost quite a lot and you don't really want to waste that much money.

also, good reviews mean more people are likely to buy it, and so if you like the artist, this is good news. they'll have more money, and be able to work on another album ;)

so yeah, reviews matter!

I think it matters. There's so much music out there these days that I find myself scanning magazine reviews to get an idea of what's even worth looking into. I wouldn't bank on one review, but usually the consensus gives you a good idea of how good something is. If I see something get 4 or 5 stars I usually look into it.

Reviews are far from pointless. They can help introduce you to great new music that you would not have otherwise ever found.

As everyone else said, reviews are a good way to turn yourself on to new music. There's so much out there, reviews just give you a glimpse as to what may be good and what may be bad. If anything, a decent review should have some unbiased facts about the album so that you can get an idea what it's like.

Maybe we should have a album review section on the forum. Each person that wants to review albums gets their own thread. We could have a limit of maybe 25 threads, and for instance if I had a thread, I could rent it out for 10 dollars a month to someone who wasn't lucky enough to get a spot.

I do think it would be cool to have something like this, because sometimes someone will mention a band I've never heard of, and if they reviewed an album maybe I'd be interested in buying it.

Why I'm not in bed yet, I don't know.

For example: If the NME gives something a poor review and notes that it isn't as good as the work of that artist 10+ years ago, it's probably good.

i'm not saying reviews aren't useful to bands you've never eard of before, but all i'm saying is magazines and other things arent always right.

for example, if nme had given SMYT 1 star or woteva, would u not have bought it?

I'd buy a Frank Black album if a review gave it a half of a star.

If Frank Black made a guest appearance on a new Avril Lavigne album, and a review gave it 5 stars out of 5, would you buy it?

Well then, I guess not. It may be technicolor, however.

Paying attention to reviews is wrong, but reading them is o.k. I guess that doesn't make any sense, whats the point in reading them if you don't pay attention to them?? (it's early in the morning over here). When I read a review I never used it as a decisive factor if I am considering buying an album.

Some reviews are just crap though!

I think that I should have one of these threads, as I have great taste in music and am probably the most well respected forum-goer.

I read reviews out of sheer curiosity, because most of the music I like isn't well-recieved. Some of the most annoying, pretentious reviews I've read are in Rolling Stone. I know they're paid to do that, but Christ they can be a bunch of art-fags sometimes.

I don't see anything wrong with reviews, but as a factor in whether or not I actually buy an album they mean absolutely zip.
