Why have a real time chat? Dean is here about every minute of the day to chat in near-real time, posting every other message in every fucking topic.

re: chatroom, i can easily set one up, that actually ties into UseNet, but is it really gonna get used? Normally it's totally empty.
We could set up a meet-up time, and when we're all together we could make it so we all hit 'play' on SMYT at the same time, and then i'll make fun of you all for being such massive uber-dorks. |

Contrary to what Jim says, I'm only here every FIVE minutes. A chat wouldn't be a horrible idea, but I think it would be dead mostly. I spend too much time in the forum as it is, nevermind if there were a chat... I just wouldn't be able to go in. Which might be the best reason yet to have one.

I think chat would be a great thing. I spend a fair portion of my day in convoluted email threesomes w/my best FB.net peeps and this would simplify my life. (And slow Dean's takeover!) :P

I didn't think about that,but it seems pretty unlikely to me.Threads like the Henhouse and similar are more fit for real time chat.Most probably it would save moderators and members a lot of posts like "what are you listening to now" that full the active topics anytime you log in...If it's easy to put up i'd give it a try...

Dave, gotcha, I figured you meant IRC. I think that's the best way to go...pick a network and set up a #frankblack channel. I'll setup my IRC client to sit in there all the time :P

If it's IRC, it's gotta connect to an IRC server, and that IRC server should be able to be connected by a client. If not, it's fucking useless. I refuse to use a Java IRC chat program. That is uberlame.

Alright jerks, just for shits and giggles and to gauge interest, I setup a channel on Undernet. For those nerds out there who understood that last sentence, the channel is #frankblack (duh). For those of you who are staring at the screen, drooling and clueless, go to www.mirc.com and download & install mIRC. It's an IRC client, best and most popular for Windows. There should be a FAQ and a help file. You'll basicly want to connect to any random server on the Undernet network (to be quick, you can type /server us.undernet.org in the status window to connect. That's for a random US server...I believe it's eu.undernet.org for europe.) See you there!

I prefer the smaller IRC networks nowadays, even though I'm so bad that I'm on at least 4 IRC networks at a time. I've also been using the same IRC client and the same version for 8 1/2 years (ircii 2.8.2)
