This appeared in yesterday's Observer (7th Sept), a review by Kitty Empire (no title/rating):
That Frank Black copped his latest album title from his therapist doesn't exactly bode well for his creative health. And yet Show me Your Tears marks a return to some form for the former Pixies man and prolific solo auteur. A rollicking paean to misery, it draws heavily on country and, on the excellent Nadine, a prowling, lusty blues. There are - naturally - 13 tracks in here, and all of them deal in bad love or worse luck. In Horrible Day, Death, Misfortune and the Chorus of the Lonely even turn up to offer Black a ride. Happily, Black pays up with some of his old songcraft. The deal doesn't last, by the time Manitoba rolls around, the magic has gone. But mostly, Black's tears are well worth savouring.
