Anyone listened to them? I picked up Spiderland once, listened to it, was OK, let it sit for a while and one rainy day on campus it impressed me. I know it's pretty minimal sounding and seems repetitive, but there's something about it I can't quite put my finger on.
Got Tweez recently, still not grown on me like Spiderland, though the "Steve, these headphones are fucked up..only coming out of one side..should I just bear with it, or what? Shit." part is amusing.
--- Okay, so until next time, who put the 'ween' in Halloween? I don't know, probably you, you freakin' weirdo. |

Spiderland is fantastic. I agree, I haven't enjoyed Tweez as much, but I've always admired how they named the songs after people.
For what it's worth, Mojo magazine included Spiderland in their "100 Greatest Guitar Albums" guide last month. I thought that was funny. |

There is definitely something special about Spiderland, even if the style is a little niche-y. A great "guitar-geek" album and one of the very few that I have on vinyl.
When the hell is CBS gonna do a Murphy Brown reunion? |

Spiderland's the only one I own, and it took at least a dozen listens to really seize me. Went back to buy Tweez but it was already gone. Maybe I'll order it someday. Did it come with one of those "this is meant to be listened to on vinyl" stickers too? I haven't heard anything at all from it, but it came from a couple years before, right? I read somewhere it was a bit lighter and not so intricate.

On the back of Tweez it says, "This recording is meant to be listened to on vinyl."
I also have a 2-song CD with the songs "Glenn" and "Rhoda" (Rhoda is longer than on Tweez). I think it came out just before Tweez. It has no information on it-- I never knew even knew the song titles until Winamp found them online.

Oddly enough my copy of Spiderland didn't have the famed pro-vinyl message, though my copy of Tweez does. Tweez was released in 1989 and Spiderland in 1991.
I was told by a guy in a local record shop not to buy the album "with the guy laying in the snow" on the cover because the Slint bandmembers saw nothing of the money. I also insisted to him that Britt Walford played with the Breeders while both the Pixies and Slint were still around, but he denied it, I'm thinking maybe because his contributions were credited to "Shannon Doughton" and "Mike Hunt", apparently he's a schoolteacher in Louisville now.
