Does the opening riff remind anyone else of a shuffled version of the melody for Head On "As soon as I get my head round you, come around catching sparks off you", more like the melody from the Jesus and Mary Chain version than the Pixies, since Charles changed the note for the word "sparks". |

er, I mean he changed the notes for the "off you" part... not the "sparks". Not that it's all that important. |

LOvely Day always reminded me of Lust for Life, the guitar line kind of sounds like the rhythm section of that song. |

Very odd...Lovely Day always reminded me of a lost Doors song. You cannot deny that Frank Black sounds A LOT like latter day Jim Morrison when he sings "But I'll send you money / I'll send you lots of money." Even the rest of the vocals sound like it. Although, it definitlely sounds remenisent of Lust for Life.

I really like Lovely Day. From the first time I heard it I thought the vibe was really really sexual somehow. Anyone I know to whom I've said that has said I'm crazy, but that's just my take. But yeah, it's definitely not one everybody loves.

As a matter of interest puertorrican guitarist Carlos Alomar played on Iggy Pop's Lust For Life as well as many of David Bowie's classic albums.Frank as we know is a fan of both and has never been afraid to mention or include musical bits influenced by his favorite artists. From Puerto Rico the infamous (Isla De Encanta)well it should have read Isla Del Encanto (Island Of The Enchantment),your fellow Frank Black fan,Carlos Lopez. |

I never considered that, but it does sound legitimate. And, just for the sake of throwing in my two cents, I think Lovely Day is one of the greatest songs that Black ever wrote. It's kind of interesting how he went from "lovely day" to "horrible day". |

Yeah, I actually thought about that Lovely Day-Horrible Day thing too, it almost made me wonder whether this whole career's been planned out from the start or something. Then I thought about it and decided probably not.

Well, you gotta give the guy the credit...the song may be titled "Horrible Day," but the line with the title does say "It's a beautiful day, it's a horrible day." It's not all that depressing :)
