After bands that are all too obvious, the greatest American band of all time is apparently Ween.
If anyone isn't hip to Ween, I would vouch for their coolness to the point I would buy their entire discography for you just so you can decide.
Actually, I'm a poor school teacher, I can't afford buying people discographies so don't worry about it.

The best American band playing right now (besides the man and the Caths) is the recently reunited Camper Van Beethoven. Most definitley.

Interpol, Camper Van Beethoven, Sonic Youth, and Morrissey (of Los Angeles). Just kidding, Morrissey is a singer, with bored session musicians, not a band.
But yes, the best faces of death video in the world is the "baboon" one, and we are all wrong.

c'mon now, it's Guided by Voices. Or Sonic Youth. Pavement too, but they broke up. But GBV are probably the only American band that release more good albums than Frank does (although Frank will always be numero uno in my book). |

word up to Camper Van. they wouldn't be my pick, at all.. but they'll always have a special place in my heart (i lived in the same dorm building as them at UC Santa Cruz.. College Five, B. which they used to be called. "College Five Band" or CVB. then they changed it to Camper Van.. but you probably already knew that)..

the greatest American band besides "Frank Black And the Catholics" would have to be...... ?????
The Pixies
no, i don't know.. that's hard. Nirvana? Elvis? Devo? |

The Allman Brothers Band, while Duane Allman was still alive. Duane, for my money, was second only to Hendrix among that generation's rock guitarists. - Mel |

Ween gets many, many votes as the most talented and under-appreciated. Seen them four times in concert and it was never the same way twice!
Strummer-man I had me a vision!

i've been thinking about this more:
what about The Beach Boys? or Neil Young?
it's too hard.. i think Hendrix is a good choice though, if you have to choose. but DEVO is still up there. |

I go with Sunfall Festival. Currently.
Isn't Neil Young a Canadian? How about the Mark Mothersbaugh and Danny Elfman duke it out. Hey I didn't know CVB was that young or from (went to school in) Santa Cruz. My buddies were into them during high school. Maybe I thought they were older cause of the "Matchstick Men" cover. Floop, you ain't 30 yet, right? I love the Giant Dipper and Sudden Impact (I think) at the end.
Morrissey: Now there's a guy whose music WAS significantly better with Marr & Co. And Marr, now there's a nice subtle guitarist.
